Great service, great food, and great beers!
The food was good and the service was very nice and helpful. It's not the best atmosphere for an Irish Pub but given the fact it's inside a downtown high rise (Smith Tower) it's about as good as one could reasonably expect.
Love this place although it gets packed on game day.
Cool local bar great service
Door Dash order. The Boxty were perfectly fried and warm. Good sauces. Adding the mettuce garnish to the to-go order made the bottom of the pefect boxty a little soggy. The irish stew was everything I could hope for. Traditional comfort food done right. The only downside was no plasticware or napkins, even, and no option to select as an add-on item. How do you eat irish stew without utensils? I ended up using the soda bread I purchased and the accompanying butter lid. I would try again, after the plastic cut on my lip heals!
My experience at Shawn O’Donnell’s was okay. It wasn’t my favorite restaurant/bar experience and was not my worst. I went at lunchtime on a weekday. The atmosphere was definitely bar/pub like and I loved the Irish atmosphere. The food was decent, but wasn’t the best. I really wish they had more vegetarian options besides just an impossible meat veggie burger. Overall, the veggie burger was good and so were the fries, but were not the best I have ever had. It would have been nice to have some Irish specific veggie options. The service was okay. It was not the best service I have ever had. It seemed like they were maybe short staffed that day. I’m unsure. My service could have been better. My server just basically stood at the bar talking to a friend the entire time. Overall, the vibe was great, the food was okay, and know that if you are vegetarian, there are VERY limited options for you. I recommend Shawn O’Donnell’s overall, but it’s not a place I would make my first choice. Vegetarian options: Very LIMITED vegetarian options. The only one I saw was an impossible veggie burger.
*Raised rating. Ready to go with no runaround when I went in for a dinner delivery. Not so top of the morning to GIG workers. A time estimate for food prep is in fact: not your job, but now you have a bad review. Don't hurt the people that support you. Deliverers can pick up another job quickly, not lose out on tips, not let double orders get cold, and not risk parking violations. Another driver will soon be on the way when the food is closer to ready. I strolled in to this quiet bar for a delivery order on a sunny Sunday lunch hour and was greeted, without heart, a confident assurance that the order was being prepped as we speak. I caught a bad feel about the interaction, but dropped it. As I sat and waited and the seeds of bad intention and negativity grew, another GIG worker leaving who had been there waiting patiently prior to my arrival, noted in passing that he'd said thank you to her (politely) and she had said nothing in return. A fair warning of the intentions at play, to come, and appreciated. This is when I realized that the clause I did not catch hidden in the food preparation information was that there was an indefinite amount of time it could take. After a little more time near the daylighted entrance, my patience faltered and I journeyed into the darker part of the establishment where she resided to humbly appeal for a more specific time estimate. When queried, she countered quickly and triumphantly, and with a touch of spite that all she said was that it was being prepared and not a time estimate. Being a little shocked at the confirmation of my fears I don't remember more specifically what her following words were, but what it amounted to was, "not my job". A roughly accurate time estimate would be appreciated if you have the time in the future. It's not specifically your job, but it is a very appreciated courtesy to the people waiting patiently to support you.
Great downtown pub. The service is awesome, the food is good, and they have happy hour from 3-6pm and 9-close EVERY.SINGLE.DAY!
