Matsutake Sushi and Sake Bar

My dad and I are regulars here and for good reason. We’re both very picky when it comes to sushi and there is no other sushi restaurant in the DMV that compares to this gem. The level of freshness and attention to detail is really great. The head sushi chef, Sam, is truly an amazing talent and is an absolute pleasure to talk to. If you’re a snob when it come to fresh, quality sushi, then this is the place for you!

First time in, it was Awesome. Might give Ariake a run for their money. Went early on a Monday, 6pm. It was quiet inside nice atmosphere and interesting layout. My 5 year old son and I shared the following: Miso Soup, Edamame, Tuna Sashimi, Scallop Sashimi, A-5 Wagyu Sashimi.. and other such items. The photo provided includes the proteins listed above. It was a fantastic experience. Fresh grated wasabi really got my attention; the food was fresh and prepared with passion/care. Only recommendation I’d have would be to remove the foot from the scallop sashimi and slice thinner portions. Beyond that great job! I look forward to eating there again soon.

This is our favorite sushi place! Every roll is excellent, sake list is extensive and well priced, and service is quick and attentive. Try it, you’ll love it!

update - i agree with many other reviews that the service has declined. one of the waitresses that often serves us is dismissive. the past few times we went here we felt rushed and unwelcomed; since then we have tried other sushi restaurants nearby and have had a better experience with comparable quality and lower prices. previous review: one of my top restaurants - such a great spot! there are so many sushi places in reston but we always go back to matsutake for their top tier quality and service. last time we got miso soup on the house which was lovely ! other sushi restaurants nearby dont even compare to the quality of this place.

very clean and safe location with good food for dine-in, take out, and delivery. staff is very attentive and polite. Food is ready quickly always a great experience getting sushi from here.

Given how close we are to this new restaurant we thought we'd give it a try. We ordered the tempura appetizer, chirashi, gyoza, Alaskan roll, spicy tuna roll and the Hawaiian Poke salad. Everything was tasty and fresh. Despite being in takeout containers, the food had a nice presentation. We'll definitely be back to taste different dishes! Update: Feb 2024. We dined in and had the Salmon Combo (my husband said the fish was exceptional) and a Bulgogi Rice Bowl (I loved the sizzling hot bowl)! The atmosphere was relaxing (a week night), and the service was excellent. Features: Has a drive through window for picking up your takeout.
