Amazing food, must try if you like Japanese food.
Michelin quality small plates with authentic while modern presentation. From the welcome drum to the fresh ingredients, this oasis in Downtown provided a very intimate experience focused on quality all the way around.
I recommend Chicken Kaarage, Fried Oysters, and Gyoza.
My ramen was cooler than lukewarm.
I could be wrong but they forgot to put salt in it. I asked for salt and they happily gave me. The mushroom was cold. It felt like it was just taken out from the fridge.
Also tiny portion for an expensive price. I was still quite hungry after an entire bowl of ramen.
The broth's saltiness can't be adjusted (unlike at the Campbell location). A few clams had sand, which made the texture really unpleasant. The noodles were too soft, and you might want to drink a lot of water afterward. The seafood seemed pretty average, not especially fresh. I ordered extra green onions and garlic, but they weren't included in the bowl. Overall I will not return.
Really enjoyed having lunch at this new location.
The staff was friendly, the place is beautiful and the food was delicious and brought to us very quickly.
I had the HINODEYA (House) Ramen and was pleasantly surprised. I exchanged the pork for chicken and really enjoyed it.
For me, the best part about our meal was the Chicken Karaage. It was crispy and delicious and it came with a green powder that really elevated the dish. I still don't know what it was (possibly had some matcha in it), but it was unlike anything I've ever had before.
Will definitely be coming back :)
Delicious Japanese ramen in the heart of San Jose downtown, great service and atmosphere as well. Highly recommend!
So glad to see more Asian restaurants opening in/near San Pedro! I’ve had the Campbell location of Hinodeya on my list to visit for a while now so was pleasantly surprised when I found out a location opened even closer to me! The decor and aesthetic are spot on, the dining area has ample space, and the drinks menu is 👌🏽👌🏽 Any restaurant that offers Japanese craft beer automatically gets one (maybe even two) stars just because of that. I love that they offer sake flights and, as someone who is trying to get into sake more, that they had a good variety of options. There are QR codes at every table which allow you to order and pay using your phone which means you really only interact with the staff when they bring your food and drink items. My partner and I ordered the $14 sake flight, karaage, takoyaki, and Tori Paitan all to share, and our bill was just over $60 including tip. The staff were very friendly when they did come by and one of them even brought us an extra bowl for the ramen without us even asking! Unfortunately, the food left much to be desired - the batter on the karaage was too thick (obviously that’s a very personal preference), the takoyaki was not crispy on the outside and the filling to tako ratio was way off, and the Tori Paitan was all around bland. For the moment I’m going to chalk it up to new opening tingz and I do plan on going back to try at least one of their other ramens.
