18% service charge with only half of it going to the staff. Basil wings were incredible. Jalapeno wontons, fried rice, and chicken skewers were just OK. Service was okay - host staff very friendly, service staff a bit less-so. It felt like additional tipping was expected from the service staff - that’s really rough to expect on top of an 18% service charge. Atmosphere was fantastic; the place is beautiful.
The green curried noodles are a revelation.
I loved lemongrass in Brooklyn Park and had to give Gai Noi a try because it was created by the same chef. I had the yellow curry and have been thinking about it since, 2 months since I visited. Will definitely be back soon.
When I looked up their menu, my first thought was... pretty reasonable prices for a restaurant in Minneapolis, which, of course, is why I wanted to try it. First off, we tried the basil wings and the calamari. Yep, the reviews about the wings were true. They are very good. The calamari was good too, but there's barely any. It's mostly jalapeños, hence the price, I guess. Then we had the gai basil, red curry with shrimp, and the lemongrass chicken skewers. The gai basil was too salty. It had potential, but the salt ruined it. The curry was meh. I had high expectations on this one but too bland. The chicken skewer was actually quite good. A solid 3.5 for the food we tried so far. I have to go back to try the others. I forgot to mention, I like that the spicy items actually is spicy and not "MN" spicy. Not too spicy but has a kick. They also have drinks menu with a good list of cocktails. I had the mekong and it was pretty good but I'm not much into sweet drinks. The server recommended this for a "less" sweet drink, if you wanna try it. For parking, it might be hard when it becomes really busy. When I got there, I still found parking on the streets. There's a pay parking lot right beside the building.
initially found a table on the first floor but moved upstairs for the vibe and lighting. ordered 3 dishes (for 2). food was overall great! Khao Piak was too salty but it was still good. ordered pad see eww and was surprised that u couldnt add any protein. if u wanted chicken, u would need to order the chicken skewers. but pad see eww was AMAZING w so much egg and loved the noodle texure. yellow curry was very rich and rice had to be ordered seperately. also service fee 18% is automatically included.
Tiffany completely ruined this experience. We love lat14 and wanted to try out Gai Noi with our family so we had 10 people over to celebrate a birthday. The servers were awesome, the scenery was great and the food was so good. The ribeye was my favorite...it melts in your mouth. I also really love the chocolate cremuex. You would expect that would reflect in the way a manager spoke to fee paying customers after one of our party waited 2 whole hours for her green curry and shrimp. We were ready to leave and were told twice "it would be here soon" . She was also told by 2 different servers her main dish would be comped as a result. Down came Tiffany being so abrasive , rude and disrespectful. Another $25 on top of the over $500 that was already spent wasnt so much of a big deal to us than the disrespect; Being told "oh we are really sorry about not getting your order ready in the 2hrs after your party was seated and you will get your meal comped" to "speaking to us with so much disrespect". Maybe take a class in customer service or at least learn from the servers.
I wish the delicious food, sweet server, and cool atmosphere could make up for the terrible business model. This is a “family style” restaurant in no kind of family style that I’ve ever experienced. Their form of family style is that you get your food whenever it’s done cooking. They don’t attempt to present it at the same time… at all. Do you want chicken curry? You order the chicken and rice individually. And mine were served individually, as well…… 20 minutes apart, individually. My chicken was cold by the time I got my rice. My brother’s rice was cold by the time he got his steak. An hour and a half after we ordered, when the rest of us have been done eating for 20 minutes and we would like to leave, my mom’s food still hadn’t arrived at all. And this was AFTER a couple of requests for it. I finally had to go to the server station to ask for it. When I said she shouldn’t have to pay for it, they were apologetic and agreed she wouldn’t have to pay. Our server was also in agreement. Fifteen minutes later, the manager, Tiffany, came… according to her, the owner has a policy, if you get food you pay for it, even if you had to sit and watch everyone else eat for nearly two hours….. because that’s their business model. They don’t care how hungry you are, how cold your food is, or that you’re paying $50+ per person. You get your food when you get your food, even if the rest of your party is ready to leave. Oh, and we got there at 4:45 in the afternoon. At that time, they weren’t busy. Of course, 2 hours later they were. And that was their excuse for the “delayed” food. And that delay is ok because it’s FAMILY STYLE! I don’t know about you, but any time I’ve eaten with my family, which is every day, we eat the food all at the same time. Also, I spent years of my life working in food. I was a manager for some of that time. I know that timing everything to be done at the same time isn’t easy. But it’s very doable. This business model is just lazy. Not fun. Lazy. I can get delicious food from many places. This place isn’t one of them.
