Had not eaten at this restaurant for 7 months. Will not eat here again. The greeter/manager was rude and arrogant. The food had very little taste.......bland and slightly warm. The waitress was the only bright spot in this establishment Prime time dinner hour and the restaurant was over half empty. Big difference from the last time I ate here. Someone could make a fortune by opening up an affordable sea food restaurant in this area.
I don't recall ever leaving a one-star review for a restaurant before now, but I just had such an unnecessarily negative experience at the Captain Steve's in Fort Mill. I have eaten there many times before with my elderly parents. Today's visit was horrible. Four of us arrived at 4 p.m., but our fifth person was hung up at work and wouldn't be able to come for about 30 minutes (if at all). The hostess refused to seat us until the fifth person arrived. This seemed unusual, but I decided to ask for a table for the four of us. The hostess very rudely informed me that if the fifth person came later that they would not be allowed to dine with us. They would have to dine alone at a different table. They took us to the dining area, and I was shocked to see that the dining area was no more than half full. This did not change the entire time we were there. About 4:30, our fifth person arrived and walked up to our table (since there was no hostess out front) and took a chair from the empty table next to us as he sat down. BTW, all the tables around us were empty the entire time we were there. The server refused to take his order and said he was not allowed to sit with us as it was "restaurant policy." I asked if we could pull the empty table next to us over so he could sit there. I received the same response. I asked if he could sit at the table without pulling it the two feet next to ours. She said he might be able to sit there by himself, but he would have to return to the hostess stand and ask to be seated. BTW, there was no one waiting to be seated, and the hostess was not at the stand. I finally asked to speak with the manager. The server said she would go get her. The server stopped by our table about 5 minutes later and asked if the manager spoke with me. I told her that she had not. She left to get her again, but the manager refused to come to the table. When the server returned later, she said that I could see the manager (Cathy) by going to her office!!!! Obviously, I declined to go to the Cathy's office. Our fifth person was never served any food. He ate a portion of my meal and drank a glass of water that the server finally agreed to bring him. I just don't understand the lack of flexibility and customer service. I really can't comprehend why a manager would refuse to speak with a customer at their table. I could somewhat understand a lack of flexibility on the seating if the restaurant was busy, but this was the least busy I had seen the restaurant on my many Thursday evening visits. Maybe others have had a similar experience and that is why business was slow this evening. We certainly won't be back.
