Vanderwerf's Your Independent Grocer Port Elgin

I was trying to scan a burrito bowl at self checkout but the barcode was applied to the corner of the packaging and would not scan. The self checkout attendant by the name of John or Jon tried scanning and inputing the barcode manually but was unable to do so. I decided to grab a different burrito bowl. Instead of putting the faulty bowl back in the mix of other bowls I left it on a shelf-like feature beside the fridge to save another person the frustration of trying to scan it. "John" impolitely informed me that's not where the faulty burrito bowl went. Returning to the self checkout with the new item, I went to scan it but was met by "John" intercepting and grabbing ahold of the item. I told him that it's OK I can scan it but he would not let go and proceeded ripping the burrito bowl out of my hands with force and foul language. I asked him, "what he was doing?" and he was visibly very upset and again, swearing at me. I asked if it would be possible to speak to his supervisor and after waiting ten minutes and talking to two other store employees I still had not been in touch with a supervisor. I was told Eric Vanderwerf would be down to see me but he did not arrive. I was left with a number to call Mr. Vanderwerf but upon calling, within 10 minutes of the incident happening, I was told he was in a meeting for the foreseeable future and that I could expect a call the next day. The call never came. I asked John what his last name or employee number was so there was no confusion and he told me to stop harassing him. To say that customer service is lacking at this location would be an understatement. I left the store with no food, no acknowledgement of the wrongdoing, and was lied to about contacting any supervision. Not to mention the embarrassing scene "John" caused at the self checkout, which is hard for me to describe via google review. I was in shock at how he handled this and so were the majority of people around who watched him rip the item out of my hand and swear at me.

The PC Express at this location is definitely lacking. For a service that is supposed to be for your convenience, it is anything but. Apparently picking your time slot doesn’t matter and they work at their own pace. I would highly recommend PC Express service, just not at this specific location!

Worst place to shop in all of Saugeen Shores. Dirty, indifferent, rude and extremely expensive. Do yourself a favour and avoid them at all costs. Price gougers.

Had a choice between making me a happy customer or an unhappy customer. Chose the latter.

Whoever runs the butcher department needs to be fired. Meat is almost always going bad, terrible selection, and they don’t know how to cut meat properly. Complete hack job.
