Here's the problem. I didn't want to pay a delivery fee so I went into the restaurant on Pearl. I paid with a card, like 99% of people do. I never carry cash. Because of the owners, I could not leave a tip on the 4th of July. I wanted to celebrate the fact that these people were working hard on a holiday and because of the owners I could not leave a tip through paying with a card. Unreal. I hope the workers are paid at least $20/hour because who carries cash these days? Seriously who carries cash? Shame on the owners for not allowing their workers to be tipped by CC! The food was amazing, btw.
Teriyaki salmon poke bowl! Delicious!
Love the atmosphere here, super relaxed. Great service (I like ordering at the counter and not having to wait to be waited on! ). Good prices for delicious food. Can't wait to go back.
The food was good but the customer service wasn’t great, the employees completely ignored my presence for about 6 min and began helping the people that came in behind me. I had to ask one of them if my food had been started to which they replied that it was done, and was sitting on the counter the whole time I was there. Food was tasty but lukewarm.
It's small inside but they fill the space out with tables very well. Staff is kind but seem pretty busy. I miss that they made onigiri bowls during the Covid shutdown, it had more flavoring that the onigiri's themselves. I REALLY miss the bowls and I feel like the taste and nostalgia brings me back here for the teriyaki chicken and onigiris. Shared parking lot. I've brought my kid here before with no issues. Parking: Free parking shared with five other businesses. I've never had an issue finding parking. Kid-friendliness: I've brought my kid here before and the staff was very patient
The food was delicious. There seemed to be enough people working, to bring me my food, but I had to get up and get it. The staff was extremely friendly though. With four or five people behind the counter, table service should be possible.
They add a 12% gratuity to all orders paid with a card. I always tip but mandatory gratuity seems like they don’t want to pay their employees a decent wage and instead pass the buck on to customers. It’s really too bad. I won’t be back until the owners pay a decent wage or it changes ownership. Ume Grill is on a steady decline, unfortunately. Sautéed tofu has been replaced with deep fried that is no longer seasoned and the sauces are also lacking the punch they once had. They also struggle to get your order right about 1/3 of the time.
Love this place. My favorite is the butter salmon.
Not great. Not terrible, but barely good. If you're looking for a quick, cheap place to grab some rice, you've found it. My dish looked good but I didn't finish either the main nor the salad. The salad was a little off somehow and I don't mean flavor. My meal was alright but it was mostly rice. Rice, tofu, and not enough sauce. The other dish at the table was the miso butter salmon, which was good, but was still mostly dry rice. The onigiri was disappointing. A single garlic clove inside a fist of rice. Teriyaki chicken was the same; not a thumb of chicken inside a fist of rice which crumbled apart after cracking it open to find the chicken. My skewer was fine. The staff was friendly, so that's a plus. Red flag: the cashier, while taking our order at the register, reached back and grabbed a cooking onigiri with his bare hands to check it, then finished taking our order. A quick, cheap fill of rice carbs and a friendly crew is what we found here. Vegetarian options: They have non-meat options.
