I’ve been coming to Truscott for years and I don’t plan on returning any more. I used to come to buy their amazing cannolis and lasagnas, but I had a really bad experience recently that ruined the place for me. I called for a quote for a custom cake and they quoted me a price for the cakes I wanted ($65 for each custom cake). A normal cake order with whatever flavour and writing you want on top is typically $45. They charge a $20 fee if you want the cake make custom which I wanted because I was throwing an 80s/ disco themed party for two of my friends that had a birthday in the same time. I called about the design I wanted, but they weren’t understanding what I wanted and suggesting coming in the store to show the customer cake guy some photos and discussing what I wanted. So I agreed to come in, and the first time I show up, they are too busy and tell me to come back another time. I come back another time and he finally has a chance to discuss my order. (Good thing I came 3 weeks early to start ordering the cake) I showed him photos of silver cakes with glitter and a lot of pipping work (monochromatic) that I wanted for one. The other cake I wanted all white but same pipping work. (Included reference photo in review) He said no problem and that he could also add Italian black cherries instead of the red fake cherries they normally use in other bakeries. I said great! Was excited for the cakes. They turned out nothing like the reference photos and did not even include the cherries he talked about at all! He also ruined the monochromatic look by adding colour that didn’t match the cakes. The pipping work was non existent. (You can judge for yourself by the photos) There would’ve been nicer pipping work done on a Costco slab cake than on this one. Not to mention that it also tasted like one. If I knew I was going to get that quality of a cake, I would’ve never ordered and just opted for Costco to get the same look - or paid the same money and actually have gotten cakes at a better bakery. I called the bakery about my issue and spoke with the owner about what had happened and they said they would talk with the custom cake guy before calling me back. The custom cake guy calls me about a week or two later after I had sent a fully documented email about the situation to try to gaslight me about the cakes. We rediscussed what had happened and he only offered me “something” the next time I come in since they could not offer a refund. I do not plan on coming back so I will never see that money back. Completely disappointing experience. And I just wanted to mention that I like everything else they do like their cannolis and lasagnas and grocery. But because of this expensive negative experience, I can’t bring myself to ever return. Do not order their cakes if you expect anything better than grocery store or Costco quality!
My boyfriend and I stopped by Truscott on our way into Toronto from Buffalo. There was quite the extensive selection of hot food items. Daily pasta, focaccia paninis, fried chicken, etc. On the first trip, I tried the daily pasta with two meatballs and my boyfriend had the tortellini in cream sauce. My dish could have done with some more salt, especially the meatballs, but my boyfriend's was delicious! The filling of the tortellini was exceptional, so much so that we got this again on our second visit. Pasta dishes came with a bread roll, which were quite lovely. Soft with a nice chew and delicious with some good quality butter. There's a rack next to the fresh breads of (I'm assuming) bread that's a day or two old and sells for a bit cheaper. From here, I got some rolls, mini baguettes, and Portuguese rolls. All of the bread still felt soft and fresh despite being older than a day, and I've stashed some in my freezer to reheat in my oven for when I want freshly baked bread! In addition to this, there was quite the impressive selection of packaged pastas, sauces and jams, drinks, and various other sweets such as pies, cookies, and danishes. But the star of the show was the pastry case. Again, a very impressive array of pastries. If you buy six or more pastries, they aren't taxed! On our first visit, we tried the pecan butter tart, lemon bar, Portuguese tart, chocolate raspberry roll, tiramisu slice, and maritozzi. My favorites were the maritozzi and Portuguese tart. I would drive to Toronto and back just for those two pastries. This place is a must visit and must revisit!
I thought I found a gem in Mississauga finally after moving from Woodbridge. But what a disappointment. While the atmosphere is beautiful as well as specialty products, the staff on the other hand are rude and not friendly At all. The pasteries look beautiful but don’t get fooled like me. The pasteries are old and tasteless. For an Italian this is not acceptable. I spent $75 on garbage pasteries how Embarrassing. Your better off buying desert from Costco or an another grocery retailers cause the quality will be better. I will not be back.
Big variety of pastries and bread, but low effort and quality, mostly bland. Most of their bread products are the same dry mediocre dough shaped into different things. Coffee tastes like cigar ashtray
