The Strawberry Bank Hotel, Restaurant , Pub & Function Suite

Left it a few weeks before posting a review to see if my promised refund would matrerise, it has not and all contact is totally ignored. This was one of the worst places I have ever stayed in. First problem was trying to dodge the painters they had in trying to do the cheapest patch up job they could. Instead of closing down maybe one part of the hotel get that redorated and move on, they except to keep the hotel fully open and juggle customers around accordingly, this results in not only a awfully strong smell of paint everywhere but also paint all over your clothes in you dare to touch one of the bannisters or walls whilst trying to get to your room. Then we had the problem with the hot water that was first reported mid afternoon and then repeatedly being told " it will be on in an hour or so " never ever came back on so no showers or hot wash unless you boiled the kettle. Rooms are basic but OK, although I would imagine that the tiny wall heater would struggle to keep you warm on a cold night Wi-fi more or less no existant. The bar seemed to have a group in the corner who would be served at all cost first and it was just as well as it is very expensive. The only part of our our experience was the reception staff who despite fighting a losing battle with all the people complaining about the above issues especially the hot water, which was more or less throughout the hotel manged to remain polite and friendly. Also if you want a decent meal at a decent price have a wander up to the Indian restaurant at the green, much more reasonable than the prices here. And to finish whenever I book a room I not only look at the reviews but also the response to issues from the owners, if you read here there a many bad reviews but as far as I am aware they can not be bothered to respond to any, and I think that sums this place up. Not recommend at all.

Nice place pleasant surroundings

What a lovely place. Doesn't look that big but a nice size. Met friends for a lunch. Generous portions and quality food. Didn't stay so don't know about the rooms.

Great meal

Stayed here recently.. Hotel, Restaurant and bar are ok but all have problems.. Hotel had strong smell of fresh paint throughout, but despite this our room was dated with torn wallpaper and scuffed walls.. On that - the walls were very thin. You can quite clearly hear people above and next door watching TV, making phone calls, going to the toilet.. which is fun if it's at the same time.. Restaurant food was good but not great, we all had the steak which was overdone - mine was accompanied by nine chips for twenty five quid but it was tasty. Afraid we won't be coming back - but if you need somewhere to stay (in and around the area) then this is ok and will do the job.. Just don't have too many expectations.. Must finish this by saying that the staff seemed really friendly and helpful..

WLAN war leider sehr schlecht, so dass man nicht arbeiten konnte. Ansonsten super Hotel mit erstklassigem Service. Das Frühstück ist super.

Food & drinks: Poor service the food took far to long to arrive even tho' we were the only ones in the restaurant! Our main meal was the belly pork which came as an under cooked lump of meat It was tight tough and the crackling was none existence and tasteless, When asked if our meal was okay I explained how I felt about the meal it was very poor She did apologise and asked if I wanted something else which I declined as like I said the service was poor so I'd eaten the other food on my plate before she came to ask, my son couldn't wait having to pick the children from school so couldn't wait again for so long for other food. The cookie and cream dessert well the rock hard cookies were tasteless and I'm glad to say it was commercial icecream so nothing wrong there Overall extremely disappointing to say the least We were the only ones eating and still our meals hadn't been cooked correctly So with our drinks.. 4 × double gin and tonic's my son paid £115.00 They didn't even adjust the bill again when the meal was well below par and they knew There won't be a next time! ( my dog enjoyed the belly pork as I took it home it was only fit for dog food) I wish we hadn't been so polite What a shame
