The Kings Head Hotel

This is an lovely old Georgian hotel. No lift because of the age of the place but on the plus side the stairs are wide and shallow so even an ageing crone like me could manage them, plus every landing had convenient chairs to sit and recover on. Our room was at the front of the hotel (nice view) and the hotel exterior light illuminated our room all night. Not a major issue for us and to be fair we did have the curtains open a bit, but if you are light sensitive you may want to bring an eye mask. Bathroom toiletries are awesome and available for purchase. Breakfast was adequate and there was plenty of it. The staff are very nice and friendly. We enjoyed our stay.

Lovely hotel with character.

Friendly staff and lovely atmosphere it's such a great place to go for a quick bit or a coffee with friends. Everyone is welcome and prices are reasonable too. You can also now do table service.

We booked an afternoon tea and wow! Delicious food .. Best scone in 1000 miles! Staff are really attentive and so polite! Would definitely come back! Food & drinks: The afternoon tea was the best I have ever had... Will certainly make the trip to come back!

Noisy and not the best VfM. The advantage of the Kings Head is that it is centrally located on the Richmond Market Square. However, this advantage also means that at night all the noise from the late night revellers, cars moving down the side of the building, and early morning market day set-up comes into the hotel rooms. Of course the hotel can’t do much about this. What they can and definitely need to do something about, however, is sound proofing inside the building, most notably the slamming fire doors, the slamming hotel doors, creaking / hollow floorboards and thin / broken windows. The hotel rooms were, however, clean and well presented. As an overall experience, the place seems to struggle to work out what it is: a pub? A bar? A restaurant? A wedding venue (certainly there was lots of advertising for such)? A hotel? It seems to do a bit of all of these but none of them as well as their prices suggest they should. I would like to commend the young staff did an excellent job over what was clearly a very busy bank holiday weekend. They all worked hard, were polite and presentable, and were always willing to help out. What was lacking was any kind of guidance or leadership from the hotel managers and owners. Not only is there a confusion about where they work (as above, which includes the somewhat ironic “hospitality from the heart” branding that appears next to all the commercial promotions), but there is a clear lack of oversight and attention to detail (for example: I’m not sure that I once sat down at a cleared or wiped table during our stay). For the prices they charge, I would expect more. Next time I’ll be looking to get a better value for money hotel elsewhere.
