The Izaak Walton Hotel

This place is a well organised, classical, beautiful gem hidden away amongst Ilam Dovedale. If you love Nature & Hiking, this is the place you need to be. It's situated in a perfect location between many hiking routes. 2 nights wasn't long enough and we can't wait to stay with them again. Very polite staff, well organised Hotel & very tidy! The Housekeepers were amazing! They tended to the rooms with care whilst we were out hiking. Very clean and topped up everything perfectly. They even placed my friends fluffy toy back onto the bed after they made it up which was a lovely touch. Great reception staff!! Lovely cooked, clean fresh food by the chef! Thanks again Isaak Walton.. missing you already!

The Isaac Walton hotel is in a beautiful location and the staff were friendly and the food was ok at best..… However our mattress in our room was very hard and very uncomfortable and me and my partner had zero sleep and got up the following morning with our bodies aching which ruined our time at the hotel as we were very tired and in pain the next day. We are still waiting for the general manager to contact us to discuss the matter and that was nearly 1 week ago….. Update after speaking to the manager he has refused to refund any money and offered no resolution for the terrible nights stay we had.

My husband booked a night away at the Izaak Walton hotel For a birthday treat, we arrived 23/02/24 and were welcomed by a lovely lady on the reception, she gave us all the information we needed for our stay, we stayed in room 14 which was the most beautiful room with amazing views of Thorpe cloud and the surrounding countryside, we went down to the bar and the lovely staff lit the fire and we sat and had a few drinks, we had dinner at the hotel which was lovely. The staff were very friendly and made us very welcome, breakfast was nice and there was a choice of cereal, all in all we enjoyed our stay and we would definitely go back . Thank you ☺️

Stopped for a coffee and a warm tasty sandwich in the Dovedale bar. Very cosy and warm atmosphere and such friendly service from the barman! Thank you!

Fabulous venue for a winter birthday walking weekend with friends. Staff especially Richard, looked after us wonderfully. Walking from the door, warm, clean and welcoming. Rooms: Very clean and roomy and superior one we had was great

The location is honestly the only decent part of the hotel. We booked here for 2 nights but only stayed the one night down to how unwelcomed we felt. Food was far from an acceptable standard with chips tasting like cold boiled potatoes and long black hair found in my partners food. The staff made us feel because we were much younger than there usual guests that they didnt want us in there hotel hence we cut out stay short. Duty manager Ryan Wheeldon needs to pull his head out. Made up lies about us purely because we didnt fit the criteria for his preffered guests. Never let these do a pre-authorisation on your card either as will over charge. Edit as you can see they continue to make ludicrous assumptions. Not once did we bring an illegal substance on site with cctv also proving i smoking tobacco outside. This continues to show how prejudice they are to younger guests.

We had an lovely overnight stay, amazing location just a short walk from the stepping stones and a great base to explore. Our room over looked the countryside, was very clean, tidy and spacious. The call out point here was the food, we dined in the hotel restaurant, having 3 courses every single dish was amazing very high quality, I would highly recommend the food but also the staff were kind, courteous and welcoming.

I've travelled all over the world and this must be the most friendly and personable hotel I have ever stayed in. The people here are genuine, friendly and knowledgeable, the food is delicious and the rooms fantastic. I've read some of the reviews where they are complaining and these people should have a reality check. If they want plastic food and surroundings then don't come here is my advice as these are real and hardworking people with a fantastic hotel in amazing surroundings, if that's what you are looking for then this is a must. Thank you to all of the staff who made our stay so lovely. We will come again. Rooms: We had a brilliant room with a mountain view and spa bath at half the price of a cupboard in London
