Food & drinks: Great bacon sandwich
Good vegan menu but very slow service.
Very disappointed with the service, ordered cheese sandwiches and had to wait 50 minutes for them. Won't be bothering again.
Such an amazing place to stay. The room was perfect, everything we could ask for. The breakfast was delicious and the hosts so friendly. Will definitely rebook.
Lovely coffee and cake spot on.
Great value meals and drinks including fresh backed cakes nice friendly staff Nearby activities: Close to railway station and nice country walks along the canal and beyond
We stayed at The Family Tree on Sat 23 March. We arrived a little earlier than check in time and were greeted warmly by Charlie who let us take a seat while we had a glass of wine. Lots of choice available (white/rose/red - another lovely member of staff talked us through all the options) and there was plenty of space in the restaurant inside and outside too. Charlie then showed us to our room when we were ready and we had the ‘Sycamore’ - an exceptionally decorated and spacious room equipped with everything you need for a great stay including a very well sized bathroom with luxury toiletries and bath, mini fridge, complimentary sweet treats, teas & coffee facilities, steamer with iron available and a useful guide of nearby attractions, restaurants and facilities which was great help for a pair like us from up North. Although just off a main road, the place oozes tranquility. It’s noise free and felt wonderfully peaceful. The bed was incredibly comfortable and just what you need after exploring the local countryside. Then on to breakfast - we had the sparkling breakfast at 09:30 on Sunday morning. The restaurant was buzzing with families, dogs and couples alike all enjoying the spring sun. Staff took our order and brought out our teas and juices promptly. We started with their cold breakfast - an assortment of meats, cheeses, yogurts, fruit & pastries which were all divine. If that’s not enough, the breakfast also included a hot dish of which we chose the family tree breakfast and vegetarian sausage & halloumi muffin. Both were huge, cooked to perfection and served with our prosecco. We were genuinely stuffed and couldn’t have been happier with the service. It was also great to see such a welcoming attitude to everyone no matter whether you’re a local or from afar. Staff checked to make sure everything was OK and made sure we were well looked after and checking out of our room was easy as pie. There’s also a huge free car park across the road for customers which was great, there’s plenty of bike space for any keen cyclists and a kids play area. It’s also a 2 minute walk away from Whatstandwell train station with frequent services to Matlock, Matlock Bath & Derby which was really useful. Will be back for sure! Thanks for a great stay.
Really beautiful place. And lovely, welcoming hosts. The rooms are stunning, as is the location. Highly recommended.
