Only popped in for directions but a lovely local filled with kind helpful people. You won't nurse a pint on your own in the corner, so don't go there if you're a brooding local detective. It's a lovely area to explore; do go there for that. I'm sure the food is good but they weren't serving at the time or we'd have stayed longer; we were hungry. This is a shining example of a traditional English pub with lovely stippled wattle walls and I'd be happy to revisit one day, except I live almost 300 miles away. But we'll see.
Homely atmosphere attentive staff excellent service
Very comfortable and friendly service . First time we have been in ages and the quality and range of the menu was great. We will defiantly return.

Had the fish and chips, which was superb! The staff were chatty and fun. Great atmosphere
In the highly competitive market for Sunday lunch, the Dog and Duck unfortunately fell short. The service was fine, and very friendly and even thoughtful, but the food was mediocre at best, despite being priced at the top of the range for a Sunday's meat and two veg. The starters were good - interesting, well presented, and well cooked - but the main plates, despite being large, had little to recommend them. The roast dinner was as arid as the Sahara, and edible only by drowning it in additional jugs of gravy, which thankfully were brought upon request. The lamb roast was from the bottom end of fine cuts, and the vegetarian samosa thingy was just odd. The roast chicken was said to be fine, but the roast potatoes were almost inedible, and the attractive and sizable Yorkshire puddings leathery in places and just papery-dry in others. Three of four plates were left unfinished. We've had better meals here in previous years, and you can still get one better up the road. Parking: The small car park was full, but nearby street parking was available. Wheelchair accessibility: It's possible, but not easy. Several steps must be navigated.
Lovely big family meal in honour of a lost family member and regular staff food everything amazing Kid-friendliness: Staff we're really friendly towards the children
