Nice friendly and efficient service from the girl behind the bar and proper old pub atmosphere but wouldn't eat there again as not good value at all, £17 for sausage and mash with barely any veg was overpriced, £50 for 2 basic main meals and 1 childs + 2 soft drinks, shame as it's a nice place.
Absolutely first class meal. Good range of options on the menu and specials board. Given the excellence of the food, we felt the prices were reasonable. I had prawns in garlic butter to start followed by braised ox cheeks and both courses were delicious. The cheesecake dessert was a lovely homemade affair. My wife had the cod goujons, lamb curry and chocolate brownie and thought all three as excellent. Parking: Kirkoswald is a small village with two busy pubs, so it can be difficult to find a place to park.
Nice little pub. I went when on holiday in lazonby for a meal with my family. I probably wouldn't go back for food again, though, as when paying £17 for a burger and £18 for fish and chips, i would expect better chips than frozen skinny fries. The service, though, was brilliant, and the atmosphere was good as well.
Fabulous place, delicious food. Our server was a young girl, forget her name but she was brilliant. We had a toddler and a small dog. They have a dog friendly pub and a dog friendly place to dine. Highly recommended. We were camping in lazonby so 5 mn drive away. Food nice and hot. Parking: Difficulty in parking just find a space in the road Kid-friendliness: We had a 2year old and they gave her time to think and actually took her order from her which she loved.
Overall disappointing experience; nothing really bad, but for the money (£55 for 2) expected better. The food was basically "stuff from the freezer" and nothing fresh or handmade, and there was little effort to garnish the dishes. Even the chips & onion rings were "oven ready". And it's a shame a Cumbrian pub serves beers from the Midlands when there are so many excellent local breweries around here. Starters: Squid rings: not really salt & peppered, and a bit soggy having been cooked from frozen. 6 rings for £7.50! So-called "stack" of haggis & black pudding; in reality 1 slice of haggis and 2 of pudding; a small amount of packet sauce sprinkled with packet dried onion bits. No bread or biscuits to accompany. £7 for that. Mains: Gormet burger and Chicken burger. Again all very shop-bought and something you could easily do at home (though we make our own burgers). No 'slaw or salad, and soggy sweet buns; not bakery crusty ones. We just expect something better when eating out at a pub; at least decent chips!
Amazing food. Cassoulet is gigantic and so tasty .Staff are lovely ..thank you !
This place is truly a hidden gem!
