I recently visited Starnut with my friend wednesday, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. Firstly, the prices were exorbitant compared to what one might expect from a typical coffee shop. When I inquired about the steep prices, I was told it was due to purported health department regulations. While I understand the importance of adhering to health standards, using it as a justification for overpricing items seemed unjustified and left a bitter taste in my mouth. Moreover, the owner's demeanor was far from welcoming. Their rude and non-professional attitude towards customers was evident from the moment I walked in. Instead of creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, their behavior only served to further sour the overall experience. While the quality of the coffee and menu items may have been satisfactory, the unwelcoming ambiance and unjustified pricing overshadowed any positives. In the future, I will be taking my business elsewhere, where I can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee without feeling like I'm being taken advantage of.
I saw on the online menu they offered Gluten Free crepes so I was sold. I have Celiac and was so surprised to see they also had gluten free bagels and breakfast sandwiches. I did not experience any cross-contamination which I am very sensitive too. I have never had crepes but they were absolutely delicious. I over-ordered and they made some of them to-go for us! It’s a small place so inside seating can get tricky and you need reservations for more than 4 people. It’s also not a coffee shop so each person needs to order at least $10 if part of a reservation. Space is sacred there!! There is outside seating when the weather is nice. Definitely going back for more!
Loved my florentine omelette it was tasty and delicious along with my latte just like I like. The staff was very friendly and polite. Will go back soon
Popped in for a quick coffee before my work event. The head gentleman was very complimentary and welcoming. Got a pistachio latte and it was divine. They gave me a little elephant ear pastry since it was my first time. Had a young kid come in with a guitar for some love music and I caught them right at the switch over from coffee hours to wine hours. Such a great cafe!! Dietary restrictions: They had a good selection of fair free milks!
I loved this place! I brought my computer here, it was a great place to study/work. The food was great and the service was wonderful. Will absolutely be coming back!
As much as I hate to be writing this, I felt like everyone should be aware of how unfriendly this place is for families. After picking up my toddler from school and noticing he hadn’t touched his lunch, I had to pick up food from a fastfood place that he loves, but I don’t. We walked into Starnut to have coffee with a couple of my friends, but as soon as they saw my toddler’s food, the manager very very rudely asked me to leave. After explaining to him that it’s just a small amount for my toddler, he let us stay but with a horrible attitude. I understand that outside food is not allowed in restaurants, but for a coffee shop to not accept food for a very picky and hungry toddler, I think this place could have made an exception. As much as the coffee is consistently good, I will not be returning and will not recommend this place to anyone. Being kind and empathetic should be the basis of customer service. Kid-friendliness: Absolutely terrible!
Such a soulful place. Great coffee, deserts, and customer service always amazing
This is the second time I had an issue with Starnut. When the first time happened I decided to turn a blind eye but I will never visit this establishment again. It's a shame because the food is actually delicious. Once we were there with the Board of a local group of moms. We had a Board meeting there. The Cafe space is pretty big which is why we chose this location. However, we were informed by the management that our group is too big and we are not allowed to have a meeting there. I was shocked given that 1-a we would all order food so that was money for the business 2-there was plenty of empty space in the cafe at the time and we were under 10 people and 3-we were the board of a local group with 200 families' membership. You would think any business owner would love to have our patronage and get our good word around. That incident passed. Then today, I was there with my friends and a business partner who is a local real estate agent. My friend had her son with her. We all ordered food and coffee from the establishment but the owner came over and asked us to leave because my friend had brought outside food for her son because the food at StarNut was not what her son would eat. Again, we all ordered food from StarNut--plus the owner doesn't know. Maybe a child has severe allergies or is on a special diet. I was floored at this reaction. My friend tried to explain it to him and he shamed her so badly, she had to rush her two year old to the corner and shove food in his mouth so we could stay for the meeting. Then, the owner has the audacity to say, Your child isn't a baby and proceeds to give him two pieces of chocolate presumably because he felt bad. If we had not all ordered food from the cafe, I would understand but this is unacceptable, bad business, and frankly, inconsiderate and rude. Never again.
Love this place! Wonderful coffees of all kinds; esp. enjoy the pistachio latte. Nice food too, including crepes, omelets, and fancy sandwiches. Thanks, Starnut!
