Excellent food, terrible coffee.
By far the best breakfast place in St. Louis I've tried since 2020. Hearty portion sizes, authentic southwest influences and flavors. The adovada is outstanding. The breakfast burrito is huge - highly recommend with chorizo. Folks that do the serving are fun-loving, hard-working people with interesting tattoos and bills to pay so be nice to them.
One of my favorite places in St. Louis, I love the food and the eclectic vibe.
Southwest Diner on Southwest Blvd. On the southwest side of the city. There's a theme here. And it's SW heart ❤️ is in what comes out of their kitchen. Great food and service on par with breakfast at Plaza Grill in Santa Fe. Friendly attentive staff. And they serve breakfast AND sopapillas all day! Vegetarian options: Black bean burger, veggie Chorizo and veggie sausage offered. I had stacked enchiladas with red and green (veggie) chile and two eggs atop and I was in hog heaven. Finished off w sopapilla w honey. Delicious! Kid-friendliness: They have pancakes! Casual atmosphere. Kid items on menu, I think.
We sat outside in the shade on a busy Saturday morning and enjoyed a delicious breakfast. Biscuits and gravy were delightful and they basted the eggs to perfection. Our server was cheerful and pleasant.
Bought the lunch tamales for curbside pick up. It was missing both sides. Very much not worth the money for two tamales and zero sides! Was supposed to come with beans and rice but had neither. There was also an option to order without sour cream, but i didn't select that and got none anyway. It took a good while to come out and there isn't dedicated parking for pick up as stated in the order confirmation.
We are locals and live right down the road and still somehow hadn’t been here yet! We sat at the bar and had an amazing experience. The vibe is so fun and eclectic and everyone I talked to that worked there as awesome. They have a nice side patio that’s covered and heated and DOG FRIENDLY! So needless to say, my pups and I will be back very soon
Overall, a good hearty brunch place if you’re feeling a more Texmex vibe. Join the waitlist before coming if you can! WAIT TIME: Came in for a 12pm lunch on a Sunday. HIGHLY RECOMMEND joining the waitlist before coming. We were told a 45 min wait when we walked in but were able to get seated on their heated patio within 5 mins of waiting thankfully. FOOD: We got the tamale breakfast plate and the huevos rancheros with a half order of biscuits and gravy. Everything was so delicious! You can taste the spices in the huevos rancheros meat and the tamale tasted pretty authentic. Potatoes were just crispy enough. Portions are large as well, we were pretty full in the end. SERVICE: Our waiter came by very very often, very attentive! He filled our coffees before we even ran out every time. DECOR: Very artsy decor in the patio, murals painted on the brick wall. Inside looks more like a diner but we weren’t in there long. PRICE: Came out to roughly $25 per person. Reasonable for brunch and for all we ordered.
