Loved the artist we saw there. But the venue itself wasn't anything special. Granville is a quaint town, but there was nothing that stood out about Sonny's on Broadway. They do have a craft beer selection, but it's small. I'm a bourbon fan and felt like I didn't have many choices. I guess it wouldn't be a bad college bar. I did think it was a little odd that the nationally touring artist we saw had to do sound check with a room full of people. Seemed kinda unprofessional.
I cannot speak highly enough of my experiences at Sonny's! The place exudes a "this is where The Music Happens" kind of vibe. Think of those famous places in Motown, or Nashville, where Legends got their start...and you will feel that when you walk into Sonny's. The drink prices are very reasonable, the staff was working their tails off last night (sweating!), the sound man on staff knows his room and will tune the sound system for everyone, the whole night (dont You hate it when microphone squawks, or feedback loops just kill the moment..and your ears?)...none of that here. Spacious dance floor, decor is low key-but that actually helps patrons to focus on each other, or the stage, as opposed to staring at some faux memento hanging on a wall. If you can't enjoy yourself at Sonny's, when the whole night is tailored to assist in your enjoyment, you're doing it wrong!
