I was really disappointed by the poke here. It was really expensive (for the 'large' [sic], it was $28 after tax, pre-tip), and it only came with two very mushy scoops of rice and a small bit of greens. The fish itself was pretty good, but not worth the price. I'm used to a poke place in Seattle where you get the same amount of rice, fish, and greens, but you also get to add any of the 15 toppings or so, for about $16. The other items looked a little more reasonably priced but I don't think I'd return to try them.
I’m from Hawaii and when I saw this was Sam Choys I could not resist. I miss home so much and their Aloha Chicken hits the spot every time. The garlic fried chicken is also bomb and tastes so much like home. Rida has incredible customer service, probably local das why but that is always so important. 100/10 would recommend! Editing my review 3 years later, unsure if their recipe or cook changed but the teriyaki short ribs doesn’t taste or smell the same and should be reclassified as teriyaki beef. It’s not at all like Hawaii style short ribs and I was a lil disappointed.
Fiance and I tried this spot out for lunch. I was curious since I ate at Sam Choy Island Bar and Grill in Hawaii many years ago and remembered loving their food. I got the loco fries and he got the Korean fried chicken rice plate. The food was delicious! The only minor complaints I have are that the wait was a little longer than expected and the chicken wasn't crispy like the description. That aside, I would be interested in returning to try other items on the menu.
I love this restaurant chain and have only been to the one in Seattle, tukwila over the years and food is incredibly good. I don’t live in Tacoma but was in the area and craving Sam’s poke tacos! I ordered my usual & man what a HUGE disappointment . The tacos had literally no sauce and completely DRY! No flavor ! The quality was so bad I didn’t even finish them fearing I might even get sick if this place is that careless
Food is so good! Loved the Spam ! The restaurant was a bit cold
Sadly this establishment has drastically declined over the last few years. I used to come here and love it. I could barely hear the woman taking my order she spoke so softly and wasn’t very friendly/welcoming. The fryer was out of order deeming half the menu and my usual favorite item couldn’t be ordered. I settled for overpriced $30 rice, ahi tuna, and seaweed salad. Additionally, the ice was out so my drink was room temperature. I won’t be returning. The rice was not cooked correctly. The tuna didn’t seem fresh.
5 oz is just not very much fish, not for the price. Quality of the fish is ok, but not great. Turns out, it’s not really possible to get good Hawaiian poke in Washington. Sam Choy’s is not an exception unfortunately.
