Disappointed. I went last year and had an amazing authentic Italian dinner: steak, shrimp, bacon wrapped asparagus. I raved about it. Went back today and was surprisingly disappointed. New menu looked like an old Life magazine… uh oh… the pizza was just ok, focaccia bread was just toast, chicken and pasta lacked flavor. Definitely missing the old authentic charm it had a year ago. Not sure what changed, but wasn’t the same…

Poor service, even poorer food. For the price point of this "authentic Italian" restaurant, you should leave satisfied and with something to talk about. Not tasteless bland and over cooked food. The pasta? Mush. The chicken in the picata? Rubbery and tasted like a dirty grill. Chicken parm? Not melted, sauce taste like it came from a can. Acidic and bland. To top it all off we have to wait almost an hour for food. Will not recommend and will not be back. Plenty of great options for Italian in New Haven and this isn't one of them.

I've been here for drinks after work and always wanted to try out their food. The atmosphere is great and the dining area comfortable, unfortunately, when we went for lunch the service and food fell short. The server was pleasant, but not attentive but the real issue was the quality of the food. The shrimp risotto was completely over cooked mush, which is a shame because the flavor was good. The shrimp on the risotto was over cooked and rubbery. My friend got the penne Ala vodka with grilled chicken, and while the sauce was delicious the pasta was over cooked and mushy and the chicken dry. It also took a long time to receive our food and considering there weren't many diners was surprising. Maybe the cooks/chef were having an off day? But the quality of the food was not worth the price paid.

This restaurant looks nice from the outside, and their website, pictures, menu, and everything looks very fancy. We have been planning to visit this place for some time. We went out to this restaurant with a few friends. And it was one of our worst experiences in recent times in terms of food & service. We ordered Garlic Bread Bruschetta, Calamari, Pan Seared Salmon, & Truffle Risotto. Of those three items were not there & about Salmon, we found out they don't have it after an hour of wait. And whatever other things we got were below average in terms of standard for a decent Italian restaurant. We felt the food was made as it was for a quick bite before you hit the club. Towards the end, they also forgot to bring our cocktails & This was on Saturday evening from 8-9 pm.Look at the picture of Garlic Bread Bruschetta. NOTE: I tried to reach on given email in response, but I haven't heard back anything.

Recently, my party and I visited Olives and Oil, looking forward to a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, the evening did not meet our expectations. Despite making a reservation for nine, we were provided a table for eight and encountered an unwelcoming attitude when we mentioned the discrepancy. The staff's reluctance to accommodate an extra guest was our first disappointment. The wait to be seated further dampened our evening, as we were left standing for a half-hour past our reservation time. Once we finally began our meal, the presentation of the Chicken Parmesan in a bowl was peculiar and impractical, complicating what should have been a straightforward dish to enjoy. Regarding the food's quality, it was disappointingly mediocre and lacked seasoning, particularly salt, which was surprising given the restaurant's prices that I'd classify as overpriced for what was offered. To add to the frustration, a request for pink sauce on the chicken parm resulted in an unexpected $3 surcharge that was not mentioned in the menu. When this was contested, the establishment's offer of a drink ticket as compensation felt dismissive, and especially redundant since I have no intention of returning. They did propose to reverse and redo the transaction, a solution that seemed unnecessarily complex and time-consuming. In light of these experiences, I advise future patrons to scrutinize their receipts carefully for any unwarranted charges. It's disheartening to report that Olives and Oil seems to engage in questionable practices that could be perceived as untrustworthy, perhaps leveraging hidden fees to increase their profit at the customer's expense. Diners looking for a reliable and customer-friendly dining experience might want to consider alternative venues.

This is a beautiful restaurant and it's a shame, they serve some of the most sub par food I've ever had the privelage of eating. I got a shrimp scampi, if that's what it can be called. Shrimp were miniscule and tasteless frozen shrimp. The sauce wasn't terrible but it was not a typical scampi, needed more lemon. More wine and butter. My partner got a Pesto Risotto, which was just a bowl of overcooked mushy/sticky rice with a child sized handful of tomatoes and mushrooms. The pesto was the best part (server mentioned it was house made and its the only thing that tasted like it was made from scratch). The drinks were drinks. Kinda hard to mess up a beverage. Our server was great. Blonde girl (Sorry horrible with names). All in all. The cooks? Chefs? Maybe the had a bad day or maybe they just dont care and it showed in the food, but as far as I'm concerned I won't be back for food anytime soon.
