Called in to the outdoor cafe area of this lovely establishment on our way back to the Patterdale Hotel after a walk in the hills with my wife. It was a midweek-lunchtime so the place was quiet. We ordered coffee, hot chocolate and cake which were very nice and very welcome! We sat under the gazebo with lovely views over the river garden, watching the birds come and go. Lovely refreshments, great friendly service in a lovely environment - highly recommended; we'll be back!
I was lucky to stay in this beautiful guest house recently and I have to say I've been in many but this has to be one of the best. Fantastic surroundings with magnificent views. From arriving you are made welcome by the hosts. So professional at their jobs and keep a very tidy and homely house. If I'm lucky enough I will definitely return. Rooms: Clean and well furnished Nearby activities: Great for walking straight from the door Safety: Excellent Walkability: Some great walks from the door Food & drinks: Breakfast was lovely and a great choice Noteworthy details: Outside bar will be brilliant when the summer arrives
After a March up to Angle Tarn and back. The sign at the bottom of the small road pointed us in the direction of the Riverside Bar (at the back of this B&B) What an amazing find. On a beautiful Easter Sunday, what more could be better than a couple of pints whilst the children eat cake and play by the river. Lovey hosts. Assuming they're the owners. Very jealous that they live in this slice of paradise! Will be back!
Our multiple places of accommodation were booked months ahead and all were good or better, but this one put us in a converted 5m by 2m converted wagon. The room shook to the slightest movement. A wicker chair was the only furniture, but it got in the way of our suitcases. Tricky 15cm wide steps led up to the room. The tiny bathroom was across a gravel driveway to the locked house, along an L-shaped corridor and up a staircase. Imagine access in the middle of the night during rain. There was a lounge with a self-service bar and an honesty box. Lots of snack items were available for purchase. A souvenir tea towel was also available. We felt the commercial aspect annoying. Good advice was given about Wainwright's Coast to Coast hike to Shap. Unsavoury remarks were made about a nearby pub.
