Here’s the problem. The place is actually really great but their weakness is consistency. Twice we have walked down to town in January alone to take advantage of the “fantastic food offers” only to find they are not serving food for one reason or another. Their food is great, hence we keep trying. Today one look at the front and rear of house and you just knew my next question was not going to be the answer I wanted to hear. “Can I have a menu please”? I’m sorry we are not serving food today. On a Saturday afternoon? I really want to this place to shine for all the right reasons but it’s times like this that can have a detrimental effect on the longevity and success of a business. They have recently had a refurb, those costs need to be recovered, so the next 12 months of trade relies on the quality and consistency.. 50% is not enough. Please guys you have something really special here; nurture it. I have loved my meals here when I have had a chance to get one. 3 star is not a reflection of the food only my genuine disappointment that I don’t get a chance to try it more often. The worst thing is, it’s not the end of the world for us, we end up eating somewhere else, but I really wanted to spend money with them.
Had a cavery which was excellent staff where friendly and helpful would recommend this place
This place was pleasant once upon a time, It's a shame the Managers and Area Managers are working for profit not Customer service and focused solely on producing a product that give people a good experience. Evidently the Area Managers have no idea about community spirit and works to drain as much finance from this once lovely pub and unfortunately it will be its biggest downfall. Would not recommended this place at all!!!
One of the best steak & ale pies ever Wheelchair accessibility: Bit restricted but do-able
Unable to share any experience of the pub. It states clearly on their website the closing time is 1am. Myself and a few lads fancied going into the pub for a few pints only to find it closed at 11.30pm. Disappointed to say the least and think it’s best if you change your closing times as others would know then and this certainly would look more professional. Regards
As we were travelling from Devon to meet two friends for lunch at the Old Cross Inn ,I booked on line and had confirmation of the booking . When we arrived we were told that they did not have the booking, and said they were fully booked as they had a table of 20 booked in .they reluctantly gave us a table, a full menu was displayed, but were told we could only have the carvery ,which seemed to be warmed up from the previous day .one dish was unrecognisable. Apart from a few other people eating , we never saw the table of 20 .
Carvery is top notch staff are very friendly will definitely go there again
