I'd heard rave reviews of the alligator tacos and as the only place in possibly the whole State who serves gator, I knew I had to come to Neutral Ground. I went with a friend who was in from out of town. We both walked in and fell in love with the atmosphere! The whole vibe is very New Orleans. It's very visually appealing. As for the food AMAZING! The blackened alligator tacos were delish! My favorite dish is a tossup between the andouille sausage flatbread pizza and the fried green tomatoes! The beignets were so good and the dipping sauces only added to the experience. Loved the berry cobbler as well. We truly didn't have a bad bite of food. Our server was next level amazing. He knew when to be attentive and when to hang back. The service was outstanding. Possibly my new favorite restaurant!
Excellent food, perfect service and live music.. Great place 2 be!
My wife and I visited Neutral Ground for the first time Saturday night. We both had a great time and were super impressed. The menu is somewhat unique. We appreciated the chance to try something new. It's southern/cajon fare. Everything we tried was spot on: fried green tomatoes, red beans and rice, catfish, cajon pasta with shrimp, sausage, & chicken, and, of course, the beignets. The place was unexpectedly empty, and the live entertainment scheduled no showed. Also, the location is sub-optimal. Those are the reasons I docked 1 star for atmosphere. The vibe, decor, etc. were all fantastic. I just prefer a place that has some energy with a crowd, which I believe is more often than not the case for Neutral Ground. We just hit it on a weird night. The plus side of the empty restaurant was the server and bartender. Besides getting us food and drinks perfectly, we got to chat them up for an hour. We had a great time meeting and chatting with them. Go check this place out. I can't imagine you regretting it.
Nice attentive service. Food wad great and on point.
Neutral Ground is a total hidden gem! Was looking for a restaurant with a southern/cajun flair but a little more class than your typical "cajun" seafood boils that are seemingly the most plentiful option, and this fit the bill. Greeted by a live jazz duet playing in the corner, the ambiance was perfect. We sat in the bar and Steven, the bartender, gave great, friendly service and mixed up some awesome drinks. Food was delicious and made fresh with quality ingredients. I'll definitely be back and recommend it to anyone looking for a little more unique, chill, classy dinner out.
If you want a different experience, atmosphere and food profile then your use to in SLC then this place is a MUST! We loved everything from the moment we walked in until we left. The entire staff was amazing, introduced our server and bartender as we sat, live music (Fri/Sat), craft cocktails, and delicious food cooked to perfection. We truly felt like we were swept away an sitting in New Orleans.
This place is a hidden gem. I went here on a limb because of the the location but was in shock when I arrived! The food was next level fresh and everything was home made. Definitely won't regret coming here!
This is not true Cajun food. When we asked for tobasco to add to our gumbo, the waiter said they didn't have tobasco but there was some other kind of hot sauce. What Cajun restaurant doesn't have tobasco? The catfish was fishy with no spices or salt and the mac'n'cheese was flavorless. And the breading on the catfish was soggy. We got the alligator nachos as well and they were medicore. The salsa that came with it had no flavor whatsoever. The beignets were not true Louisiana beignets. Instead they were tiny, a little crunchy on the outside and almost hollow on the inside, and it seemed like maybe they were baked instead of fried. (Go to Sunday's Best for some really good beignets) The only saving grace was the red beans and rice appetizer. That actually had some flavor. Most of all the food was overpriced for what you get. The service was fine but nothing special. We do not recommend Neutral Ground. Perhaps we should have lowered our expectations. Afterall this is Utah and not the deep south.
All around enjoyable experience. The atmosphere and decor has a fun NOLA style without being cheap or gimmicky. The staff were all very warm and helpful. The menu is thoughtfully limited, but with variety. The beer and wine selection is good and the cocktail my wife ordered (smokey tomatoe) became an instant favorite for her. Everything we ordered was very good. We had the crawfish Mac and Caesar salad for appetizers. We ordered the burger and Cajun pasta and beignets for desert. We felt that the portions were good and brought much of our food home. This is on our list of places to return to.
