Unfortunately our experience of the hotel wasn’t great. Whilst the staff were lovely the overall service was poor. The hotel was lacking character & was disappointing upon entry. There was a strong smell of stale smoke, no flowers anywhere & looked uncared for Our evening meal was dreadful & I returned mine almost immediately but was still charged. The location was great, the view of the bay was amazing & the bedroom was clean & perfectly ok for its purpose but unfortunately not good enough to encourage me back to stay.
We had a lovely 2 night stay for my wife's birthday, staying in a superior room overlooking the bay, the room was large and the bathroom was clean and recently refurbished very nice. We had dinner in the hotel on one night which again was very good, not a good selection of beers though only lager offered. Breakfast was a buffet and on par with what we expected. The staff were all excellent. At checkout we had an unexpected service charge added to our bill apparently for using the restaurant for dinner, being on a pre paid 2 night stay I challenged this and it was instantly removed. Nearby activities: Lovely level walk on the promenade.
A step back in time to a more sedate and refined way of life. The staff were friendly, warm and persuasive, a drink turned into a meal that was hearty and did the trick. Will return.
The Hotel is very nice. But the room we had only a double bed and as my husband is over 6ft 2 the bed was a bit small.
The room was a little tired and quite cold, the staff did provide an oil filled heater which helped. Our room was on the top floor and after a day of exploring, 3 flights of stairs is a big ask for my old legs. The standard room didn't have a view and it was directly above the bins at the rear of the hotel. The clatter of bottles being discarded by staff was very loud and disturbed my sleep on few occasions.
Loved it . After a room change. Room 31 should be declined to to the proximity of the kitchen extractor fans. However the oak paneled reception rooms and tjier log fires and comfy couches are an exceptional place to spend a relaxing evening with a Malt whisky.
