Considering this for your wedding venue? Excellent choice! From a photographer's standpoint, this venue is exciting and allows for a great deal of creativity. Indoors there are quirky fixtures and a fun aesthetic, while outdoors has multiple gardens (pnw, cactus, tropical). tip: dip into the woodshop for a cool vibe. *this particular wedding was on an over 100 degree day, so we did photos rather quickly. Not the norm for wa, but McMenamins had a large white tent to save the day! Rooms: Spacious, fun, comfortable, and super fun vibe! Safety: I felt very safe here. Walkability: You can walk to the movie theatre, pool, bars, restaurants...because it's all on site! Food & drinks: Delicious and creative! Noteworthy details: Get the passport.
I attended the Porsche Club banquet at McMenamins. The catering was definitely "Service with a Smile." The appetizers were substantial and the buffet was diverse and delicious. I was particularly impressed with the host that guided us through the buffet, answering any questions and helping choose what to select. The bartenders also appeared to be in a great mood. PS - The Porsche Club hosted a great banquet. It's worth becoming a member just for this annual event. Walkability: They have an impressive courtyard to walk around and hang out. Space heaters and fire pits all over the place.
The history of this hotel is fun, but overall you do feel like you are in an old school and they overplay their amenities (like free coffee in the Principle's Office - this was NOT in the Principle's Office but rather on a small cart below in the dark hallway. Just a carafe of help yourself coffee.) We had several issues with our room - they put us in a dog room that was a dark basement room with only small windows up high even though we told them we were not bringing dogs, they room safe was out of batteries and when we called the front desk they said that they did not have the staff to change them (so we had to bring our valuables with us to the pool which felt very unsafe to me as we were far from them in the pool), and the HVAC would not adjust above 68 degrees. Also, the air in the pool area was frigid as there were two huge windows just open to below temperatures outside. It was terrible getting out. Further, we got charged for dogs and I had to call to get a refund. Finally, the Wood Shop restaurant was a staffing mess with mix ups on our food and loooonnnggg delays. They did what to me felt like a bait and switch on the room as the image of what I reserved clearly showed stairs / was a suite but the room they gave me only had a bed and sofa pullout. There were no in room - amenities such as fridges, microwaves or coffee makers. I would not recommend this hotel, at least in the winter, and certainly not for $234 + taxes and fees. Maybe the grounds make up for some of this in the summer? It very much felt like whoever cared to provide folks with a nice experience is no longer involved in the operation. Overall it is definitely over-rated and lacking in amenities that make a nice hotel nice. stayed here for the 3rd time now and still love it! my only complaint was I could have sworn it was a 21 and up establishment... apparently not? at the very least we thought the Woodshop was 21+ only. very disappointed when children were seated right next to the pool table and when not screeching, uncorrected, had their faces perched over their chairs right next to the loaded pool cues... made it difficult to shoot. maybe we should have taught a lesson, resulting in broken teeth? not the fault of the establishment persay... but maybe make it 21 and up? it's a major part of the joy of McMenamins... not having to be around children everywhere in public. other than a drain on the generally rad vibe, we had a great time. thanks for being such a welcome oasis!
Went there for the $25 NY celebration, it was pathetic, the band was bad, the waiting outside for a long time because they had technical problems we were told. We went to the restaurant waited 1hr+ for our food, which was not worth the $$. Most tables were empty yet we had to wait to be seated. Not enough staff to serve, overall it was terrible!
Such a cool place to go grab a burger and some beer. Awesome setting and great atmosphere. Super cool staff. Lots of fun and beautiful setting. Fire pits and propane heaters for the outside.
