Definitely in my personal top 5 list for quickly served yet still great quality Mexican serving within & around the Belpar/Hills-&-Dales/N. Canton area. Always delicious, attentively serviced and relaxing with an easy-going type of feel. Never left here disappointed as far meals are considered. A bit cramped feeling in size and the bar + cocktails leave much to be desired unfortunately. Quite light handed when it comes to the actual alcohol content when mixing drinks or pouring up shots. To compound matters further here, the bar also isn't cheap or even fairly priced (compared to most other bars in the area that is)...mixed drinks are weak and if you complain about this you will eventually get a real pour in your cocktail but may be unpleasantly surprised come bill and checkout time..because it's pricey for sure. Especially when compared to other very casual places like itself. And while the beer is on point price wise, the selection is sadly barren of anything higher potentcy or craft (IPA etc). Nothing new there bc for some reason unknown to me almost every NE Ohio Mexican dining joint is and always has been devoid in the craft beer dept. Oh well mystery for another day i suppose . I digress; But back to the review at hand... Las Penas. Solidly consistently great food and service. And frankly as long as one chooses to stay with simple draft beers and/or whatever frozen margarita flavors are recommended that day by the server, everything else is fantastic. Las Penas is a super affordable, super tasty choice. Also i must say that this place is great for sharing and family style eating, since every entree seems to have been inspired and served up like it is literally made to be shared! (big portions with serving/plating styles that suggest & facilitate sharing across the whole table. 12 inch Burritos made for 2 and so on..) A staple for me and my whole family as far as local fast casual Mexican goes! Just a chill little spot to eat a quick lunch on a busy day. But also and even better (IMO) if it's a spontaneous or unplanned easy going dinner with whoever just happened to text you wanting to know about meeting up while you just sat down to have a beer type of situation.
9p on Saturday, good service, ok margaritas, simple American Mexican food, chicken has no seasoning, birria was ok, the consume was not good.
It's a oky place if you Mexican food
I have wanted to try this place since it opened and finally had the chance. I have never been so underwhelmed in my life. - For reference we love Los Tios in Dalton, El Vaquero in Columbus and Fiesta Acapulco in North Canton. - the salsa was over blended soup with some spice - the rice and beans were so bland I added pepper to them to find some flavor - the taco meat was disgusting and left a bad taste in my mouth (possibly rancid) - I ordered a Chalupa. It ended up being a flat corn tortilla chip like thing (tostada) covered in lettuce, tomatoes and guacamole. It was not what I had expected or wanted. - The cups were dirty or looked like they still had lip prints on them. - the service was slow and with only 2 tables taken in the place the employees spent their time on their phones or laying down in the booth I'm genuinely confused because the majority of the reviews and pictures are really good. I'm so disappointed and feeling nauseous from my experience. I wouldn't even take what we didn't eat home to give to my dog.
Great group of folk and great food.
By the looks of it you would not think it would be good. But it is the greatest food, drinks, people! Authentic and a ton of choices but the huge menu.
Everyone who works here is so friendly and helpful. The service is amazing—speedy and the food is always hot and delicious. My favorite appetizer is the steak fries. They come loaded but aren’t soggy like you often get at other restaurants.
