You must order their special dishes! They are delicious and hearty, very filling. The best we had while staying at Madrid. Short walk from the Royal Palace.
This place is a bit of an institution serving Cocido Madrileño, which is a sort of stew with chick peas, chorizo and various other sorts of meat. It's so little complicated (I had to ask for instructions). You get served a broth with vermicelli, a sort of coffee pot full of stew and a side dish with tomato sauce, raw onion and (mild) pickled chili peppers. They pour the broth from the 'coffee pot' into the vermicelli broth for you to eat first - it is deliciously rich with the chorizo flavour in the broth. When you've finished this they'll empty the meat snd chicken peas from the pot and you can add the side dish items to your flavour. It is hearty and delicious. If you really want to come it is safer to book, which you can do on their website. Lunch is in too sittings, at 1:30 and 3:30pm.
