Kumagoro was started by Itsuro Tamaki 41 years ago in 1978 with the mission to bring Japanese cuisine to The Last Frontier. Focusing on traditional Japanese cuisine the way it should be served with fresh seafood, delicious rice dishes, and traditional ramen. In 2019, Kumagoro went under new ownership. Itsuro still visits regularly to support the restaurant. Now under new ownership, they run the day-to-day operations. They continue to focus on balancing a good hybrid of traditional Japanese food and also have introduced new dishes to suite the Anchorage community.
