I tried this place a couple days ago on the recommendation of a neighbor. I decided not to get too fancy for a 1st-time visit & ordered the Pork Lo Mein. A pretty standard dish. Before I get into the crux of my review I want to qualify my statements by saying I don't take any joy in criticizing someone's business. After all, this is someone's livelihood. Having said that, this is an honest and accurate review based on my lunch visit. JOY HOUSE clearly has an entirely different idea about Chinese food than I have ever experienced in the many decades I have been eating it. There were 0 vegetables in the Pork Lo Mein. Not a piece of broccoli, scallion, bok choy, or anything that grows out of the ground. NOTHING. There was 1 tiny sliver of carrot & maybe 3 strands of mung bean sprout. The pork did taste delicious & there was a good amount. The overall flavor was pretty good. BUT - it was basically greasy noodles and strips of wok fried pork. I felt overcharged - literally and figuratively - paying ** $9.75 *** for the dish. Lunch service menu listed this dish at $7.20. Dinner service, which began after 3pm, lists it for $9.65. I was there well before 3pm bc I arrived home BEFORE 3pm and this is a 10 minute drive from my house. I left feeling taken advantage of. Most people don't welcome this type of confrontation to start a big to-do over .10 cents. But, it's the intention behind it that bothers me. And from reading some other reviews, it appears this is somewhat of a pattern: overcharging the customer and/or being charged for items they didn't receive, or receiving a less than full portion. That's a deal breaker for me. If the food was 5 stars OUTSTANDING, I could easily overlook $9.75 for a meal, *if it was worth the $9.75*. This meal was like a vending machine item bought at a roadside gas station stop. Since the area I live in is home to about 20 different Asian-style restaurants all within a mile radius, I will have no trouble finding another one to try.
Awful, awful, awful. I am mad that I wasted my money and drove here. The egg roll was old, hard, flavorless. I pulled out a nasty wilted brownish piece of some kind of vegetable from it. I ordered roast pork with vegetables. The slices of pork was minuscule. Might as well have ordered a vegetarian dish. Portion size was tiny. Do NOT recommend at all!
Great service and amazing food .
Had my order ready in under 15 minutes ON CHRISTMAS!! And it was definitely some of the best Chinese food I’ve had in all of Ohio. Will definitely be returning.
