$2 Taco Tuesday good food, good price but crowded & slow @ weekday lunch...but definitely worth a 2nd try @ another time of day 🤔

$2 taco happy hour - what's not to like ! Ordered one of each on the listing: meatball, pork, cauliflower, shrimp, and fried chicken. Listed in descending order of enjoyment: 1) Spicy Meatball - well seasoned, evenly cooked 2) Cauliflower - interesting and creative, even to my meat-loving husband 3) Shrimp - well battered and not overcooked, crispy 4) Pork - good flavors, maybe just a bit on the dry side 5) Fried chicken - not enough chicken in the batter, and the batter itself was thickened with sauce that made the texture a bit more chewy and harder to eat. Beautiful mural artwork and good service !

It’s definitely a place we would come in a heart bit if we ever come back to New Orleans. It’s our first time in this part of the Nation, and New Orleans was a must for us. So happy we came here. We are traveling cross country as we are moving to the Northwest of the Nation from the East Coast and decided to do it like a road trip Family vacation. Since we entered throughout the doors the good vibe was there. Our waitress A+ service. The staff in general very good, and professional. The decor was to the point. The mural simply spectacular not only because was painted by a local graffiti artist for what the server told us (thing we love as local artists, and local farmers are supported) but as family oriented folks the meaning of Aarón tattoos shared on that mural it is simply priceless in our opinion. NOW TO THE FOOD! It was as Aarón words: Dinamite! The plantain chips took me back home Puerto Rico. Tasted like our “Platanutres”. We ordered different tacos to try, and share. We dare to try the Taco Tongue. We are from the Caribbean with a lot of Spanish influence in our cuisine but never had tongue before, and it was very good! Soft and the flavors pair great together with a spicy touch, very lovely. My husband ordered a second one! The steak and the meatball ones very flavorful, and juicy. They accommodate to my daughters request of just the steak, and cheese for her tacos and even though the meat didn’t had any sauce it was well season, soft and very tasty, the way we season back home in the Puerto Rico that spices are a must when comes to season protein. She was a very happy girl! The drinks well made. We had a Rose Sangria, and Mimosa. Our 3 kids loved their food too. We couldn’t make up our minds on “Postres” so we ordered 3 different ones hahaha! We almost licked the plates hahaha! We had Satsuma Ice cream, Flan de Coco, and Satsuma Chess Pie. The Satsuma Ice cream took me back to my childhood when my father (who is Dominican) made me, and my siblings “morí soñando” in every bite I felt my Daddy close to me. The Flan was a touch dry for what I am use to, but the flavors were there and the crunch was perfect. We are not pie lovers at all but this was really, REALLY DELICIOUS! I am even craving for more today! Side note: One of our little twins had an accident as his bowl of Ice Cream fell on the floor, and the ceramic bowl broke into pieces. The staff promptly cleaned everything. I was embarrassed but they made us feel better with their kindness. They brought him another Ice Cream ball in a plastic bowl this time and I loved it! We all laughed, and beside my embarrassment this accident created another memory to share with them in the future hahaha!

If you are looking for some awesome food in New Orleans, give this place a try. We had lunch this day at Commander's Palace, and as avid foodies, our supper at Johnny Sanchez was our favourite meal that day! That's how good the food is here. The queso was excellent, the plantain chips amazing, all of it was awesome. (We are actually going back this evening to do it all again!) Yummy!!

"Meh" is right. Despite being a Mexican food lover, this dining experience was far from a food fiesta. I made a reservation online for a table for 6 to celebrate my sister's 21st birthday. She lives out of town so I wanted to pick a place that was fun and New Orleans-y.. and I thought this place fit the bill because margaritas = fun and John Besh anything = New Orleans-y, in my book. I noted in the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday but there wasn't any special preparation, nbd. Our reservation was for 8:15pm and being the responsible and much older folks that me and my hubby are, we were the first two to arrive. We were immediately led to our table and greeted by our server..let's call her M for short. She greeted us and said she'd be bringing out chips and salsa for us to start and a pitcher of Dos Equis as per our order. Since the birthday girl hadn't shown up, I went ahead and ordered the doberge cake as her dessert and requested a candle to be placed in it. The salsa is not your typically red salsa but more of a salsa verde (I think? It's green).. it's good, but like most salsas, even if it's not good you still tend to eat it because it's there! The plantain chips that accompany the regular chips are flavorless and a waste of bananas in my opinion. Finally, my sister had her three friends showed up and we got a few more orders going for drink and food. We ordered two guacamoles and an order of the empanadas along with a few drinks--I cant recall the names of the drinks but I know a margarita was definitely ordered. All of the cocktails were beautifully crafted and everyone seemed to enjoy them so no complaints there. I found the guacamole to be rather tasteless. The empanadas were probably the best thing I ate all night but they really just tasted like a regular ol' meat pie. For dinner, we got some of the quesadillas and large dinner salad. I thought the crispy cheese on the outside of the quesadilla was a nice touch but overall, the quesadilla was ok..nothing too memorable. I didn't have any of the salad but it was very colorful and almost too pretty to eat. Everyone did enjoy the doberge/ice cream dessert concoction! When it came time to pay, things got a little annoying. The check was brought out as one so I kindly asked if we could have it split up since I wanted to pay for my man and sister, and her friends wanted to pay individually. M asked how exactly we wanted it split up and one of our diners blurted out "I'll split one of the guacomoles with someone"..that's when M stepped in and said "OHHH NO, WE'RE NOT GOING TO BE DOING ALL THAT TONIGHT"..and walked off to split the bill based on what everyone had ordered. Now, I get it guys. Splitting bills is annoying but these are college kids on budgets.. and even if they aren't on a budget, there's a very professional way to say that a dish can't be split. That left a pretty sour taste in my mouth even though the comment wasn't directed to me. I must commend JH on the sexy goth vibe they've got going on from the cool decor and eclectic wall mural. I haven't completely written off Johnny Sanchez but I can't see myself rushing back.
