For starters, Hank's has always been a great go to restaurant for seafood in the DC area, especially oysters. Last night I found myself having to find a location for a late dinner for an out of town guest after 9p. To my surprise I found the location at The Wharf was open until 11p which worked great time wise. After getting there at 9:30 (and parking in the underground parking which was super convenient), my party of 2 was seated right away. I enjoyed the margarita of the day which I think was mango and strawberry (don't remember) but it was great! Then had the popcorn shrimp and calamari and the hog island style BBQ oysters for starters. These were all very delicious especially the popcorn shrimp and calamari which were delivered hot and fresh. I also had a half dozen of their proprietary salty Wolfe oysters from the Chesapeake which were a nice size and the salty brine was divine. I wanted to try so many other starters but didn't want to get too full that I wouldn't have space to eat my entree. There were a lot of great options for entrees to select from. The seafood fettuccine grabbed my attention the most but I was not sure because it had scallops in it. To my delight my waiter, Brandon, said that I can have it removed. The fettucine was so tasty and creamy and the shrimp was so huge, almost a two biter (probably, but I'm greedy lol). Great job on the recommendation and service Brandon! My only two complaints are: 1) this location does not serve desserts (due to kitchen size I believe) but I was treated to some chunks of chocolate as a treat and 2) the parking was really expensive ($29 for a couple of hours) which is no fault to the restaurant as it shares the garage with all the other venues and amenities at The Wharf. Definitely will be back!
We were on a trip to DC and had Hanks recommended to us because we like seafood. Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful. I tried the Penn Cove oysters while my boyfriend had the crab dip. The oysters were nice and clean of shards and tasty, but the dip, yet tasty, tasted more similarly to buffalo chicken dip. Then, we had our entrees of jerk chicken and a fried fish sandwich. The sandwich, old bay fries, and chicken’s side of potato (sticks?) were bland and required adding salt to add a little something. The jerk chicken was a little confusing with a nice saltiness in crevices of the chicken, but the skin itself was coated with a tongue-drying, bland, and spicy seasoning.
Was highly anticipating to try this place with the family because based on the reviews and photos everything seemed great. We had a group of 7 and ordered a lot of food. My fish sandwich was incredibly bland, there was hardly any flavor. The service was also disappointing. We arrived at 6:55pm for our 7:00pm reservation and the host acknowledged that and walked off and never came back. A different guy came and asked if we’ve been helped, we told him we have a reservation and that’s when we finally got a table. We sat at the table for a solid 15 minutes before a server stopped by. We rarely saw the server. The entire experience from food to service was underwhelming.
Hush puppies were the best ever!
Thoroughly enjoyed my Fried Fish Sandwich ($18 plus .90 five percent service charge). Choice of inside or outside seating on the wharf. Fast, friendly service, great location.
Keiry is the most amazing woman that I’ve literally ever met. She was so kind and friendly and help me find keys after I lost them. It’s also great food in this delicious establishment please come down and see it at the water. It’s amazing.
Food was decent, I had the salmon, it appeared to be cooked too fast, cold on the inside but kind of burnt on the outside. I was most frustrated by the way my bill was presented, no review allowed just tap my card and select a tip. I stopped our waiter and asked if there was any fees included and he mentioned a 5% non tip fee only when asked and it showed nowhere on screen. Very shady practice, be wary. Also given no receipt after paying just whisked away never to be seen again. I liked the location and vibe but I definitely the check should be handled differently.
