Awesome spot for Japanese BBQ in San Jose. Prices can run a little high but the food is high quality and the social experience is great Parking: Parking garage next to the restaurant is fine. It is paid.

I recently dinned at Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ in San Jose, and it was an unforgettable culinary experience. The food here is simply amazing, with a wide variety of meats to grill, each bursting with flavor and freshness. From tender cuts of beef to savory chicken and seafood options, every bite was a delight for the taste buds. But the excellence didn't stop there. The side dishes, including the noodles, corn with cheese, and dessert, were equally impressive, complementing the main dishes perfectly. The attention to detail and quality of ingredients truly shone through in every dish along with the service of the staff, awesome! Whether you're a barbecue aficionado or simply looking for an exceptional meal, I highly recommend giving Gyu-Kaku a try. You won't be disappointed!

Some items are great while others are definitely not worth your money or stomach space. Here's a review for what we ordered (server said it wasn't "too much" but for 2 of us it was pleeeeeenty: . Chili Mayo Fried Shrimp: Absolutely delicious!!! The portion has 4 tail-on shrimp with an amazing sauce. One of my favorites . Egg soup: ok for the price. Ours was heavy on the pepper so it's basically all I could taste (I like pepper so I didn't mind much). . Garlic fried noodles: good if you're looking for a not very expensive but filling option. IMO these are not the best garlic noodles around so I'd shop around if this is the main thing you're looking for. . Assorted vegetables: ABSOLUTELY NOT WORTH IT! We got 2 mushrooms, 4 slices of zucchini, a cup of corn (which even if you cook, how are you supposed to eat it?), and a single shishito pepper. 0/10 value for money. . Asparagus: Other than being hard to grill, these were quite tasty! Would recommend . Meat (Harami Skirt Steak, Bistro Hanger Steak, Yakishabu Beef, Premium Sirloin): Most first bites were incredible, however as the meal progressed they lost their magic. Don't know if it's due to the flavors on the grill or what but they stopped tasting amazing and became "ok". . Mojito Lychee: Would not recommend it at all! It doesn't look like the picture on the menu, has no lychee fruit like in the photo and tastes like watered down spa water. I tried returning it but got a complementary beer instead. The beer (I asked for their most popular one) was quite good. . Green Tea ice cream: Incredible!!!! Would definitely recommend if you like earthy matcha-like taste :) . S'mores: While they seem like a fun idea I find they lacked in more ways than one. The grill will not melt the marshmallows properly as the fire doesn't reach high enough, thus it's nearly impossible to melt the chocolate. Also, the "graham crackers" did not taste like graham crackers at all!!! They ruined the very hard to make s'mores. 0/10. Service was great tho, our server Brianna was lovely and not only explained all the options on the menu but was kind and patient. She also helped us navigate the bad drink situation in the best way :)

If you are pure Asian, perhaps you won’t like here. Trust the ratings, i probably won’t comeback. Food: The beef tongue was frozen and overly salted. The other meats were not well-prepared and the portions were miserably small. And they run out of green onion at the beginning of Friday’s night. Service: The service staff is also very limited; the bartender not only takes orders and mixes drinks but also handles cash transactions and cleans tables. It took us 25mins at the 1st waiting list to be seated.

Based on some of the online reviews for this location I was a little hesitant to try it, but I'm glad we did! The service was excellent. Or waiter (Mustafa) was very attentive and responsive, and our food came quickly. We decided to order a la carte, and had an avocado salad to start. The salad was very fresh, and large enough to share between three people. Our meat dishes were of high quality and tasted great, and the BBQ burner was clean and worked well (easy to control). I don't normally write reviews, but felt compelled to do so given our great experience. All-in-all a great meal and awesome service!

To start it is priced a bit higher then your usual all you can eat BBQ place but the quality makes a strong case for it being worth it. Also helps if you go early. Good atmosphere, good staff, with a 90 minute time limit on the BBQ. All the beef are excellent but especially the Toro Beef, Bistro Hanger Steak, and the Angus Beef Ribs where especially good.
