Gringo - North Van

The best place to chill , got some nice patio. Nice and chill vibes , they got some nice burritos and double taco shells to die for . And one of the best service in the area . And you can click some aesthetic photos 😬. And and and don’t forget to try there drinks, my personal fav is margarita and five alive . And i tried there cheesecake as well it was delicious 🤤

Overall: Giving 3 stars because the servers were friendly, cheap beer and the location is cute. Food review: In their website they describe themselves as “white trash cantina” so I went with very low expectations but they still managed to disappoint. I’m not commenting on the food authenticity or anything like that but the food was garbage made out of cans. With the background in mind I decided to order a meat burrito. The burrito was very sad looking and more like cabbage soaked in del paso salsa iuk (I definitely didn’t eat it ) I would recommend everyone to walk a few blocks up Lonsdale to chipotle for better “mexican-style” food. We spent 71 dls for two beers, 1 burrito and 3 tacos and it felt like waste of money.

Amazing service and good

Just got back from here and had a good time. I had the pork burrito and my wife had the chicken. Mine was really good and my wife's was had a bit too much sauce on it so it was messy to eat but she like it. I get to find out tomorrow how good the chicken is as she only had half. It's not a large menu place so offering are limited but by what I had and saw other people had they do a good job of what they have. It was busy but only took about 10 min to get our food after ordering.

I don’t write negative reviews, this is my first. I was a bartender and server for 20 years. I have so much love for hospitality—but the server was super rude from the second they came to the table- and also said they “don’t disclose what tequila they serve” which doesn’t work for me- if I’m paying for it, tell me what it is. I was so excited about this place! The first time it was great, but after the experience I had I won’t be back.

Awful service. Started out okay, the server introduced herself when we sat down and seemed friendly. But then forgot about us for 30 mins after ordering chips and salsa and a drink. I had to flag her down to ask for more food/drinks, despite seeing her walk past us multiple times and lingering around the bar/kitchen. Furthermore, we were seated AT THE BAR, with the bartender in front of us the entire time, who never said a single word to us. When food finally arrived, I tipped my beer over reaching for the plate, which spilled on the counter. Granted, it was my fault knocking the beer over, and it was only maybe a quarter of a pint, but at every other restaurant I've ever been to they'd offer to refill it (or at least a small top up given it was only a small amount of beer spilled). Instead, the bartender asked the MANAGER, who was standing behind me when it happened, to grab a napkin to help wipe it up. Neither the bartender nor the MANAGER asked if I wanted a small top up in light of the spill. The manager then had the audacity to grab my empty glass 5 minutes later and ask if I wanted to buy another drink (and this was the only instance which anyone asked if we needed anything). Unbelievable. The only redeeming qualities were the atmosphere (lighting, decor, music, etc), and the prices. While prices were fair, the quality of food was very sub par. Chips were just bland store bought chips, which is fine to me as long as the salsa is good, but the salsa was worse than store bought...super runny with very little flavor. The chicken burrito was okay, better than Chipotle but not by much, maybe a 6.5/10. I'm fine with this quality though for the pricing...they only charge $13.50 for the crappy burrito, which seems fair for restaurant pricing. I figured the quality would be around Chipotle level quality going into it, given the pricing. Just didn't expect service to be so abysmal.

Looked forward to trying it but the heat was unbearable and had to leave.

Thank you to Grace and Becky who provided us with amazing service last night. It was our first visit to Gringo and we were not disappointed. The food was hot and delicious and the light cream coloured HOT SAUCE made Geramy both sweat and cry but he loved every slow building burn 🔥 moment of the heat. Highly recommend that you check out this new North Shore Gem!

Came for a beer and tacos during Stanley cup finals. The place has vibrant colours and looks cool on the first glance. Beer was okay considering it costs 5 bucks. At least it was cold as it should. Picked three different tacos. All tacos were tiny and pretty dry, the pork taco(carnitas) was actually enjoyable. Tried both Gringo salsas and liked them very much. The place seemed to be understaffed. It was packed with people during a hockey game and there was only one server on the floor and one girl behind the bar. When they opened I was excited to finally have a decent place with Mexican cuisine in Lower Lonsdale area but this is not it. If you are looking for a place with cheap cold beer this might be for you but overall I would rate my dining experience as below average.
