Stopped in here on a Friday afternoon while walking around Georgetown. We enjoyed the soft piano playing before the anticipated crowd. The center bar is a bit unusual with very short seating (I am a taller person). The bar obviously fills up because more staff began to arrive and our waiter was putting reserved signs on tables near the piano. I wouldn’t order the food here, seems low quality for the price. My Irish coffee was decent. Overall, a bit of a pricy place, but nice enough. I’m not sure what this place looks like on a busy weekend night but Friday afternoon was relaxed.
So, I have to be honest. I had an amazing time. The food was delicious and the prices are reasonable. Here's where it gets a little ugly, which was a huge turn off for me. I ordered Egusi with fish and goat for $27. When I received my bill I had a $10 unchange for no reason. I questioned the waiter who then told me the cook told her to charge me extra for the meat and fish. I then asked the waiter to call the manager. A young lady walked over and introduced herself as the manager. I explained to her that as per the menu I was already charged $6 dollars extra which I was ok with. At this point she could not give me an answer. I was completely turned off at this point I then told her this feels like they were taking advantage of people and UP CHARGING. She then said she would credit me the $10. The moral of the story is PAY ATTENTION TO YOU BILL BEFORE YOU PAY. They know lots of people are drinking, partying and not paying attention.
My boyfriend and I stopped in for drinks on a busy Friday night and we were made to feel unwelcome. We were sitting at the bar, chatting over a drink, when the bouncer walked over and told me “you need to stop”. He must have seen the confusion on my face because, without skipping a beat, he said “you two have been kissing all night.” That line only added to my confusion. As the bouncer walked back to the entrance, we spoke with the bartender who called over the manager. I told the manager that we probably shared a peck or two over the course of the two hours that we spent at the bar. His response? “We don’t do that here.” I’ve been to this bar more times than I can count and I’ve always made it a point to visit whenever I’m in DC. The bartender is excellent and the live music is great, but I cannot support a business where I am singled out for being gay. Why should I go out of my way for a bar on a quiet street in Georgetown when I could stumble into any gay bar on U Street and know that I’ll be treated with respect?
Stopped in for a friend’s birthday party and disappointed is a light way to put it. There was supposed to be live piano karaoke, yet we were turned away when we tried to go up and sing a song — the pianist said he’d “try to get to our request” even though we were the only folks seemingly in the entire 90 mins we were there that put one in. The drinks at the bar were not half bad. They had creative names. The “food” was the worst part of it all though. I’ll let the photo speak for itself, but the $13 chicken “tenders” left a lot to be desired. I hoped for a lot, and still hope they improve on these shortcomings.
***Not safe for LGBTQ+***. It’s sad to believe this would happen anywhere in 2024, let alone a major metropolitan city. But, my two friends were singled out by the bouncer and told they would have to leave for an innocent kiss on a Friday night in a crowded bar. Leaving this as a warning to others.
Amazing music from talented pianist, accommodating bartender. Definitely should visit!
Terrible bouncer. Decided to take my business elsewhere. Bar deserves 0 stars. On March 2, 2024 around 9:30pm, bouncer refused to let my friend in because her legal ID is from the Dominican Republic. Bouncer was inhospitable, abrasive and rude from the start. It felt pretty racially motivated. After my friend provided a passport, he allowed us in but immediately kicked us out because we commented on how unusual this was. He allowed the line to build up over this petty issue. Would not recommend this place and will not be returning anytime soon. If you do come, make sure to bring a birth certificate because you’ll need it.
Jesse the entertainer was rude to us and made a dig at my friend for trying to give him cash rather than venmo. He also couldn’t sing so was undeserving of anything. The other singer was a good entertainer. The bar man was friendly but the drinks are over priced.
Super fun party vibe with Dueling pianos and room to sing and dance around!
They charge you 7% for the pianist that is not playing. Another 20% as a grant is included in the check. The bartender is rude.
