Went to the Cross Keys for the first timein a well. The tableware bookedfor 5.30pm and we arrived on time. We were seated at our table and asked the waitress to give us a couple of minutes while we decided on what we wanted. We ordered our food at 5.45pm, by 6.15pm, we asked how long our food would be and they said that itaouldbe another 15 to 20 minutes, mean while two tables which had ordered after us got their food. We asked the waitress what nonalcoholic lagers there were, to which she answered that she thought that she thought that thry didn't have any nonalcoholic lagers. We asked her to find out, she returned stating thatnthey didn't have any non alcoholic beers but they did have Guiness 0 and Birra Moretti zero. A comment which drew numerous looks from the other clients. Anyway 6.30 and our food arrives, my wife and I both had Sunday roasts and the plates were both chipped and dirty. When we challenged the waitress she said that thr plate wasn't dirty. We refused to eat the food until we had fresh food on clean plates, the waitress took the food away, we then had to wait for a further 20 minutes. When the food arrived, it was confirmed that the food had been freshly prepared and were we happy and we said that we were. 10 minutes now a waitress who had served us came back and said "are you happy now!" I was so close to putting my knife and fork down, I thought she was rude and clearly had no skills in doing the job. The food on the whole was tasty, hot and was nice however the lack of service and acknowledgement that errors had been made means I wish I had asked for money off the bill (something I had heard other people had done) and also I will.not be going back a real disappointment

Visited today, lovely little pub off the beaten track, lovely friendly atmosphere, food was good, chips were amazing ( seriously good, try them!), I had a pint of Manchester Craft beer which I've had a few times elsewhere but this was the best pint of it I've had, they obviously know how to keep their beer correctly. Our only negative is ( and some people don't mind this at all so don't use this against the pub, it's just personal choice), I think they had just lit the fire and it was a bit smokey inside and our clothes now smell of smoke. Apart from that, the place is great, give it a whirl, definitely try the chips and the Manchester Craft beer. Keep up the good work guys.

Took my mum for a birthday meal booked a table for 3 people. Mains came one was not what was ordered so had to be redone. The the other had burnt egg on gammon ordered peas but got salad. Chips were greasy and soggy. Ordered a round of drinks which they forgot to bring so we had to ask again. Dessert was very tastless and we ordered a child's sundae for mum but they brought a small ice cream. Was still charged for the sundae. Found the service poor and very expensive for the quality we had. Will not return.

It’s a lovely place - very cosy with lovely real fires. But the food (and menu) are not good enough. Good pies made fresh but then frozen scampi, soggy chips (although fresh) and completely tasteless watery chicken curry. Be great to see some improvements here - lovely owners and friendly atmosphere let down by mixed dining experience.

Great service . As a group of 6 plus a pram turned up without booking and the staff were really helpful and made room for us even though they were extremely busy and most of the tables were taken or booked . Lovely atmosphere and big log fires made it even more welcoming. Food was fantastic too and just what we needed after a long walk. Definitely be going back again .
