Been here multiple times. Excellent Italian dishes at reasonable prices. I prefer ordering from the main menu rather than the lunch specials.

I would go here frequently. Just went there under new ownership. It was horrible. The food is half the portions, and just not the same. Lobster ravioli I kid you not 8 small pieces I was embarrassed for this restaurant. The carrot cake , well I can not believe they served the thinnest slice ever. The original slice diced into 4 pieces. Really guys take pride in serving good food with decent portions. I myself along with the group that was with us, vowed to never go back! Just terrible. It makes me super sad

The prices are very affordable and the atmosphere is great for all occasions. The food is great, my party ate multiple appetizers, the calamari, bruchetta, and prosciutto pizza. For the mains, we had the Risotto, salmon, Chicken Picatta, and another dish I forgot (slightly spicy pasta dish). Of these 4 the one most enjoyed by the group was a tie between the salmon and Picatta. That being said, if you like risotto, the risotto at Cavallo Nero is fantastic, as well as all the other dishes. The appetizers were delicious. Soft, juicy, and tender calamari, lightly breaded and with a side sauce that is fantastic. Bruchetta that matches exactly how it appears on the most idyllic Google photos. Prosciutto pizza that is garnished with greens beautifully, thin thin crust, crushy but still soft, simply done perfectly. The server was personable, friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, but not at all overbearing. We felt welcome and appreciated as customers. Since the change of ownership, this has become the best restaurant in ancaster. The price, quality, and service create a fantastic combination that can not be matched by any other restaurant (at this time of writing) nearby. I ate there a few days ago, and I will put my money where my mouth is and look for another reservation today. I strongly recommend this restaurant for any occasion and any people over 8. For children the menu might be a little sophisticated, but options for children are on the menu, I simply think the experience overall would be better appreciated by older children and adults. Good eating. Parking: The parking lot is shared with a plaza, but in the evening, the plaza is empty other than restaurant and timhortons customers

I’ve been going to this restaurant for a long time and was willing to give it a try under the new ownership Menu has changed and the quality of what my table ordered was hit and miss. Mixed drinks- were good. Spinach dip appi excellent. Thin crust Pizza (margarita, no meat) was burnt on the bottom, only about 8” round, and priced at $21!! Risotto was over peppered and was not enjoyed. Bruschetta app I was good. Overall the mains were just ok, portion sizes were pretty small for the higher price points. What put me over the top was the carrot cake. Made by the bakery next door, the cake itself was top notch, the resultant literally gave me a 1” slice of it and charged $12 ! For a 1” slice of cake. I’ll try this place once more, but if they don’t start implementing a better balance between portion and price, and improve the quality on a few dishes I won’t likely go back again.

Great service really good food

Went in today for a little date night dinner, and I can honestly say this restaurant gets 10s across the board from me. The freshness of the ingredients used was (pun intended) a breath of fresh air after going to many restaurants that prefer to use pre-made and frozen food items. I ordered the calamari as my appetizer and a chicken bruschetta pizza for my entrée. Every Bite was delicious, and I highly recommend those dishes! My compliments to Chandler and the whole team at Cavallo Nero for providing exceptional service and stellar food, I will definitely come back in the near future!

My boyfriend was getting his hair cut so I came in for a drink. Staff was very kind!

Ownership has recently changed but don’t let that be any concern. The transition has been smooth, subtle changes within the restaurant, more of a refresh and to their credit they have kept on the staff. Menu has been trimmed but prices are still affordable and the food (we had chicken parmigiana & mushroom risotto) was very good and most importantly, temperature hot. We also had a Peroni (larger glass) and a bottle of Chardonnay. Good value for your money. Shout out to Olivia, Alex, Chantel, Delaney & Chandler!
