After the pandemic, I basically never eat-out, but the reviews for this place is excellent, so I became tempted to try. When I went on a weekend, I saw a lineup already even before it opened, so I saw it as a good sign. After I waited about 20 minutes, I tried the signature durian and mango mochi, and while I am not disappointed, I am not not overly impressed. The good part about the dessert is that the owner does not skimp out on the ingredients, because the durian flavour is very rich and strong, while there are plenty of real mango fruit inside the mango mochi. Unfortunately, the mochi is rather dry and a little bit hard, and I personally think the best mochi should be both soft and chewy. For $3.25 a piece, I honestly expected better.
To be fair, I do believe this place is worth the hype, and people should try the mochi at least once. It is just that I love mochi, and have had many excellent mochi in my life, at a much cheaper price, so I am rather strict with my review. The other Cantonese style desserts do look good too, so I will likely go back and try them too. Just be aware that this place is cash only, so before one lines up, make sure to have cash ready.
Delicious mango and durian mochi - the best mochis we ever had. The mochi skin is thin, soft and tasty while the fruit inside is freshly delicious. This is a take out only shop with the mochis are supposedly eaten the same day - the staff reminded us not to keep the mochi overnight.
I've been to this place multiple times and tried many other spots around Richmond for mango mochi. All I can say is this place has the best mango mochi in town!
The mango mochi is made fresh daily, ensuring high quality and great taste. It’s perfectly soft and chewy, while the mango inside is juicy and sweet. I definitely recommend this place!
