We stumbled upon "Barwaqo" as it's now called when we were headed to the Electric Fetus for a book signing event; apparently this place changed hands about a month ago (Oct 2023) so previous reviews under the old Cala name are not relevant. We felt very welcomed by the owner and staff, and had an amazing dinner of Somali chicken and rice, sambusa, and the spinach dish which game with roasted goat and a fava bean soup with glutinous rice cakes. Everything was fresh and delicious and obviously made with a lot of care, and all of the food we got only came to about $45. We were thrilled to have randomly taken a chance on an unknown place and we will go back in the future. When we talked to the owner outside afterwards, I asked one of the staff what "barwaqo" means in Somali and he said "gift" but when I looked it up, it means "prosperity." Take a chance on this place at the corner of Clinton/Franklin instead of the Wendy's across the street!
