We just went in side today 12th April lunchtime, Tables where dirty. 2 older guys next to us asked for 2 toasted T cakes, they were served 2 rounds of toast lol. We sat down for a ice coffee and a cake. Waiting in the queue for 15mins, to be told no ice coffee, as we have no ice in the ICE cream shop, women in front told no Pizza no sandwiches. Waste of time, place a sign up if you have have run out of everything.
My dad and I visited this Cadwaladers yesterday (30th March 2024) while we visited Barry Island. I chose to have ice-cream from there because I saw on their website that there were gluten-free cones available while my dad chose to have ice-cream from there because he thought the atmosphere looked quiet for a Saturday afternoon. Upon arrival, the server probably told us we needed to queue up if we wanted to order food other than ice-cream. Because my dad and I were only buying ice-creams, we just waited where the ice-creams were. I was impressed with the wide selection of flavours, but I was even more impressed when I saw that there were dairy-free ice-creams and sorbets available, especially if I avoid dairy where I can besides being gluten-free. My dad had an ordinary waffle cone with mint chocolate chip and raspberry ripple ice-creams while I had a gluten-free cone with dairy-free vanilla and chocolate ice-creams and an extra scoop I didn’t ask for, which I initially was butterscotch flavoured and I didn’t know was dairy-free or not. Upon looking at one of my photos of the flavours, I saw that my extra scoop was dairy-free salted caramel. Even though I don’t usually like salted caramel, I couldn’t really taste any salt in it. Although the double cones were £4.00 each, we both enjoyed our ice-creams very much. In terms of service, my dad and I waited a little while to be served. When the server took our order, she asked if we had any allergies. I told her I was gluten-free, but she didn’t quite hear what I said, so my dad reiterated my request for her. Despite the server’s initial misunderstanding of my simple gluten-free request, she was more attentive when I ordered the gluten-free cone and told her what ice-cream flavours I wanted. I loved how the gluten-free cones were kept separately from the ordinary ones and how the server used a separate scoop for the non-dairy ice-creams. One thing to note is that Cadwaladers in Barry Island only accepts card payments. All in all, despite the initial misunderstanding of my gluten-free request, the somewhat slow service to begin with and the uncertainty of my extra scoop, my dad and I enjoyed our overall experience at Cadwaladers, Barry Island. I might visit again in the future. 4/5. Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free cones and dairy-free ice-creams and sorbets are available.
Used to love stopping in cadwalders for coffee and food. On my last visit just last week I saw in the window your venue is now card only. So I just walked away and gave my hard earned cash to another establishment that gave me the choice.
Warm and welcoming with friendly staff and good coffee. Also allow dog's which for me is a big plus.
Been to a few Cadwaladers and the ice cream is always excellent. Today was no exception. Mint choc chip is still my favourite though the pistachio is a very close second.
Had a cheese and onion toasty with salad it was delicious, 28, th October 20203
Visited the one in Barry island ordered two bacon sandwich s and two drinks card only payment sat down and waited for the food when it arrived the bacon had been cremated not impressed with it at all for the price also very dirty on the floor
Have been visiting for many years and witnessed a gradual decline in the quality of service and the state of the interior/seating/tables etc. We were unhappy about being carelessly served with a cup swimming in a coffee filled saucer (no apology, just handed a stack of napkins for us to mop up), to which we then accused of being 'rude'. I, sadly, had to explain the difference between being 'rude' and an entirely justified being unhappy, but I'm pretty sure I was just viewed as a difficult customer to be ignored. They have had a good deal of my money in the past, but we won't be visiting any more. The staff need a little more customer service education, and be taught on how to actually provide table service
As an elderly lady, I struggled to walk to Cadwallers today in the rain. When I got there at 2:40 I was promptly told that they close at 3pm. If you are going to close 1½ hours early please amend your website. I won't make that mistake again.
