Even though the food and service were great, it's too expensive. Drinks were pretty much $20 a pop. That said, chef has a great talent for combining texture and flavor. The chrysanthemum green salad was crispy and tangy, and the shrimp, candied walnuts, and fruit in the hup to ha and went well perfectly.

I had a really good dining experience at Bonnie’s. The staff was friendly and casual. We ordered the long beans, the fried rice noodles and the mcrib. They were all great dishes to share. The ambience was really chill. It was a bit expensive for such a casual spot but would go back in a few months

I live a block away from this spot and heard mixed reviews but finally decided to try it out. I have never felt more oily, sick, sleepy and over-salted leaving a restaurant before. Totally overhyped and overpriced. Long beans were decent. McRib is a waste of $ and frankly time. Took 30 minutes to come out. Service was good and it would’ve been great to add a local restaurant to the rotation, but unfortunately I think only people with sodium deficient diets can eat here.

Exactly the sort of dining experience that excites jaded NYC diners. Totally understandable that it was impossible to get a reservation here for about a year after they opened. Bonnie’s is a fun, understated, laid back, Brooklyn Cantonese-ish take on American classics - with an inventive menu packing serious flavor. Don’t miss the MSG martini. The Sundae with fried milk is incredible, and the BK rib sandwich is a must. Skip the cold poached chicken.

An overpriced and forgettable take on Cantonese fare without much of the lightness and subtlety of the real thing. Judging from the people present, the target audience seems to be yuppies and hipsters who want the adventure of the exotic without going into immigrant neighborhoods not very far away. We were a party of 2, and ordered 2 cocktails, chicken soup, chrysanthemum salad, salt and pepper calamari, smoked trout. Bill came to about 150 pre tip. Both cocktails were saccharine and difficult to drink. Chicken soup tasted decent, but ordinary. The presentation (served in teacups and a teapot) was gimmicky and not worth $12. It’s a chicken soup. As my partner noted, a plus was that the chopped scallion and cilantro was fresh. The salad was fine. I’d never eaten chrysanthemum leaves before. Calamari was passable, lightly coated and nicely fried with pepper and marinated onion strips. Italian/Cantonese fusion, but much too salty for either. The trout was a fishcake smoked in the skin and shape of the original fish. There’s some finesse involved in the preparation, but the taste (more Thai than Canto) was really nothing special. It was also cut into rudely sized pieces too big and thick for the vegetable wraps and that made the mouth feel even more rubbery and unappetizing. Basically you’re paying twice as much or more for a bunch of mediocre gimmicks. I say stick with the originals. Will not come back.
