Puerto Rican here. This place is incredible! Upscale authentic dishes.

Food wasn’t that great, and overpriced for small portions. Service was poor from our waiter, forgetting orders, and silverware. We were waiting at least 25 minutes for dessert for four. If you like small plates, this would be a great place for you. Great scenery though.

I've been to Bolo too many times to count since it opened. The food here is excellent, the service is great, and the ambiance is unlike any other place in the city. It is a true Center City gem. I always go for the Vaca Frita with a side of Maduros. Easily my favorite meal in Philly.

Really enjoyed this Puerto Rican (fusion) restaurant. We had the summer prix fixe menu which was creative and full of flavour. The chef personally came by to explain his inspiration for the dishes, while a band played downstairs. Great vibe. Our 2.5 year old liked every dish.

When I visited Bolo a few months ago and had their tasting menu it was quite literally one of the best meals I have ever had and certainly one of my favorite restaurant experiences in Philadelphia. After visiting again last night I was a bit disappointed that it didn't measure up to what I had previously. The menu was updated a bit and now seems to be confusingly split between "Bolo Rum Bar" and "Bolo" itself- each serves different things at different times. In any case, the tasting menus are by far the only thing that makes sense to get value-wise. Purchasing a la carte would be very expensive and with the tasting menu you get to try a ton of really unique and exciting dishes. The most exciting and stunning dishes are the ceviches, but everything else is pretty good too. I am personally not especially familiar with Puerto Rican cuisine so I loved the way they incorporated plantains and fresh acidic components in everything. I must say that the drinks were rather disappointing. My wife and I each had two different cocktails that were fine at best and they were quite expensive. I would personally avoid them unless it's happy hour where the prices are a bit more reasonable. All in all, Bolo at its best serves truly incredible food; I still think about the meal I had a few months ago. But my latest experience didn't feel entirely worth it. I found the best items (ceviches and skewers) were sorely missing from the tasting menu this time around, and with drinks it was a bit pricier than it was worth. Still, I think more people should give the food a shot!

Party of five for an early dinner. We sat upstairs. Live music downstairs was loud - fun vibe, but don't expect conversation. We hoped to try the duck arepa but they were out. The black bean dumplings were an original hybrid of Asian and Latin flavors. Tostones, fritters, and tuna ceviche were all fine. For mains we had lechon asado (two portions, one chicken and one pork) and one vaca frita. Portion sizes on the lechon asado were skimpy, particularly for the sides. Vaca frita was good. Overall, it's pricey for what you're getting - you will easily spend $80-100 per person - but the food is original and worth a try.

Had my recent birthday dinner there and was incredibly impressed with the attention to detail throughout the experience, from epic cocktails to every dish that hit our table being fresh and new to the palette. If you want a memorable dinner experience this is it…

Incredibly friendly staff. Tasting menu hit the spot with some really terrific flavors ranging from warm and spicy to salty umami. Coffee was spot on as well. Will be back!

Sadly, the owners did not manage to email all reservations to inform that they were not serving dinner at the restaurant on Mondays and Tuesdays. The hostess was not even capable of informing us that only the bar was opened and she "sat" us on the most wobbly high table I have ever seen. This is your warning that only the bar is open and the food options are extremely limited which is not worth it. We travelled from another country and were excited to try the chef's menu, paid Uber to go and come back (an expense we should not have had if they simply did the right thing and emailed reservations cancelling them) and did not even try the food. Honestly, if this is the treatment out of town guests get, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

When we made the reservation, we were looking forward to the old menu that we saw on google, that just changed last week according to our waitress on 07/13. We would have liked to have tried your Ceviche, chicken Pinchos, and Lobster Mofongo. The portion of the Mofongo we got with the Lechon Asado selection ($55/per person - photos posted with this post are of the Lechon Asado was for two people), was only enough for one person, and we felt that if we paid for two people, we should have at least gotten two of the Mofongos, which was absolutely delicious. Also, there should have been an arroz con gandules option, not fans of black beans and white rice is so bland…as were the black beans, (no offense intended). Being Puerto Rican our selves, we are frequent Latin food cooks/eaters, so we are use to more flavor. Bottled water, one Italian Spring water and one a Pelligrino, were both the 1L bottles for $10/ea. By the way, your staff and the decor were awesome!! Thank you
