The fried catfish, potato salad, gumbo was great. Didn't like the iced tea, too sweet and they don't offer a regular tea. I also don't like the fact that they have a no sharing policy if three people want to share the large catfish dinner. They would not bring out another plate. When did that start? I thought that I was watching an episode of Everybody Hates Chris. I really thought that the waiter was joking.
Love it! Good fish and awesome service.
Not sure what happened, but cocktails nor beer was available. Server did provide great New Orleans hospitable service.
It's nothing like the original. The quality of the food was horrible, like buying frozen food, then doctoring it up. Now they can for sure make wonders with masking the taste, but there is no hiding the quality of the food used to prepare the meal. All that being said, I commend my sever James. He did a wonderful job doing his best to provide an excellent experience. I feel this is a one and done situation for me until further notice, or maybe just not that location. 2 stars, literally just because the service was on point. Parking: Construction in the main parking area in front of establishment.
Today I ordered the same catfish plate that I’ve ordered from Barrows for years. It was NOT catfish, and was not fried as before. The batter was bland and far darker than in the past. If you are going to sell imitation catfish, don’t pass it off as authentic catfish. The only thing on that plate that was recognizable as “Barrows”was the white bread. What a shame.
This place reopened in a phenomenal way. I frequented the uptown location more than I want to admit. I usually stick to fish and stuffed bell peppers so this review will be specifically related to those 2 items. Peppers are delicious with a fantastic flavor. However, a couple of times they've been too salty to consume. Have had several take out orders in the last 3 months and have been receiving what appears to be swai or basa. For the price, marketing/labeling and food regulatory standards in Louisiana according to LSU AgCenter, this is not ok. LSU AgCenter states swai/basa is legal to sell though can NOT be sold or labeled as catfish. If you order catfish here, proceed with caution.
The best fried Catfish and potato salad plate in NOLA. I grew up eating from Barrows in Hollygrove. My #1 go to restaurant.
Loved it. Nice atmosphere abd my service was great.
