In the early days, Antone’s offered imported gourmet foods and spices that especially appealed to the area’s South Asian and Mexican-American immigrants as the go-to source in Houston for bulk spices and traditional ingredients. Soon all Houstonians developed an appreciation for Antone’s products and an enduring love for the original “grab and go” po’boys created by Jalal Antone. These unique sandwiches have delighted generations of Houstonians since they first appeared in Antone’s company stores and later were introduced at Randall’s and other local grocers.
