Izakaya has been part of Japan and its citizens’ hearts since 1600s when Samurai still roamed around the city of Edo (former name of Tokyo). It is said that Izakaya started as a place where a local merchant offered some tasting glasses of sake to travelers, along with some small specialty dishes. Today, an izakaya is known as a typical Japanese pub that attracts all types of individuals and groups to spend quality time over a drink and some traditional small dishes after a work day.
