Listan negro | Canary Islands | Medianías aims for some more complexity than the 7 Fuentes mixing grapes from three ancient vineyards La Habanera Medianías and Fortaceros. It fermented in concrete tanks with 20% full clusters and indigenous yeasts and the wine matured in a combination of 2500-liter oak foudre and concrete vats for nine months. Truth is this surprised me with a spectacular nose perfumed elegant and serious. It has a juicy palate and very fine tannins. It has some spicy notes on the finish.

It’s a fresh, nervous, mineral wine. The mouth is tense and well-structured. The chalkiness and salinity of the soil come through in the palate. The nose reveals fruit, such as sweet cucumbers and apricots, as well as floral notes. As you sip the wine, it evolves in the glass. This is not a classic style of Chardonnay and we attribute this to its very particular and unique terroir. The Pacific Ocean has a major influence on the vineyard, producing morning fog, known locally as the “Camanchaca,” and strong winds, which cool the vines, making this a desert with cool climate conditions. The area is very arid and the soils are chalky and saline.

Complex and elegant Sauvignon Blanc bouquet, with citrus blossom and wild flowers, surrounded by crushed ripe herbs and pineapple. Dense fruit core of juicy melon and peach complemented by hints of ripe herbs and florals. Beautifully rounded with layer upon layer of texture, this wine has a long, complex finish with plenty of minerality, citrus, ripe stone fruit and an umami quality.
