The Speakeasy Bar at Maxwell

I went last year as a hotel guest and loved the drinks, but this year's trip was rough - the bartender had no interest in controlling a very loud, very rowdy crowd that were fully screaming at each other (at 9 PM, not near bar close) when the overall background volume did not warrant it. My fiance and I waited behind/by the group who were yelling and monopolizing the bar, hoping that the bartender would realize we were trying to order, but she didn't seem to notice or care. It was uncomfortable enough that we eventually went upstairs to the apothecary. We could hear the speakeasy patrons yelling from the basement below but stayed for the excellent drinks and service that we received at the apothecary.

This was great. They have a real speakeasy experience from the entry through the atmosphere and drinks. This is a worthwhile stop. I genuinely believe if you’re with the right person, you’ll have a lively evening.

Such a cool place…You really do need the password to get in..Sooo fun!

Basement bar in the Maxwell Mansion, Lake Geneva, styled after the speakeasies of the prohibition era. Fun. Quite small, was very crowded when we were there on a Saturday night. Cocktails, beers, wine. A very cool place.

Worst Bartender!! My friends and I went to The Speakeasy over the weekend. We went to the bartender to get some shots for the group. She made our shots and we tipped her well. After some time we went to get different shots and she said "I don't have those shots and for that matter am not even gonna make any shots anymore. I am not gonna make anymore shots for YOU guys". We were shocked to hear this. We had only 1 shot until then and she simply said she won't make any for us. We left the bar coz of this rude and racist behavior. The gentleman at the door was not happy about this and apologized to us while we were leaving. The bartender heard him and said "What are you saying sorry for? Don't say sorry for anything". While the bar is great, the bartender is rude and racist. Stay away from this place. Go upstairs to Apothecary instead.
