Joe's Palm Room opened in 1954 when Joe Hammond purchased it as a jazz club and renamed it. It survived racial segregation and rezoning under urban renewal — an oasis of Black entrepreneurship in the West End's Russell neighborhood. Today, Joe's has been reclaimed for a new generation, as soulful music and sharp-dressed socialites once again fill the halls of Louisville’s landmark lounge. An institution that’s been serving the city’s West End with a variety of blues, soul, R&B and great food for decades.
