American River College is one of the most respected culinary arts programs in northern California.The program emphasizes business theory and hands on cooking--classes focus on job skills and professional fine dining cuisine. The program can be completed in 18 months, including a semester working in the kitchen of The Oak Café, the college's 4-star restaurant. The Oak Café is a student-run operation, designed to give students real-world experience in the running of a fine dining restaurant. The service staff consists of students enrolled in the Dining Room Management course, while all kitchen staff are culinary students.
