Where money matters, they deliver amazing food for a great price. Doubles on point. Flavor for days, just finished BBQ Chicken and Baked Macaroni Pie. Aunty put her big toe in it. Love the food, love the service, always great tunes playing and something to watch on the TV. Sit down or take out, old school vibes.
Food is great but customer service can be improved on. Unnecessary wait times for the volume of customers in the store. Also, it is very hard to hear the staff. They talk so low and unenthusiastic.
I have to admit, I did not want to leave this negative review because when this restaurant first opened they were great, customer service was great, food was delicious and FRESH...and their peanut punch wasn't sour...
The customer service now SUCKS, they all act like they hate their jobs and don't wanna serve you, have you waiting forever just to pay for your items. I understand that you guys have to reheat your food, but some times it's really unnecessary to be recooking the same food over and over again, the chowmein and doubles I purchased today were both burnt...seems like the same food keep getting reheated to sell...I recently bought a peanut punch and as soon as I opened the bottle it popped which was weird then I went ahead and taste it cause it was no where close to the expiration date....tasted it, sour!!! I live all the way in Brooklyn and did not want to drive all the way back to queens just to exchange a peanut punch...you guys can do a whole lot better...especially with customer service...train staff that it's ok to smile a little....and ask nicely to repeat yourself if they didnt hear you...instead of having a whole attitude just cause u may not know what exactly to get since you may be trying to experience a new dish...I've witnessed a lot of times how they act when they didnt hear you or when they just don't have time to have you repeat yourself because they didn't hear you over the music in there....
As for me, 3 times was more than enough times for me in there...I will not be coming here again or even recommend my friends/family about here...unless you guys work on atleast one of this issue....
The atmosphere is beautiful, it always looks clean so that's a plus, the pastries are delicious but a bit overpriced, and my favorite drink used to be the peanut punch but for $5 and it being spoiled way before expiration date is just ridiculous....

After Keith lee review I had to try it even though I have my roti shops that I normally go to.by FAR the worst doubles I’ve ever had channa is hard with absolutely NO flavor and the jerk chicken with chow mein was even worse omg how is this possible both Trini> knows how to cook very well I couldn’t finish the food I’ve never wasted Caribbean food before but it had to go in the trash the best thing we had was a apple j but that’s imported In a bottle sorry I’m sure they are really nice people but you have to change your cooks because I mean this when I say it is the WORST Caribbean food I’ve ever had in my entire life!
Omg this roti shop is top top top notch 👌
Very long time to be served. The cashier was not polite.
Bus operator from Gunhill bus depot visited Tamarind island restaurant today for first time the food taste delicious I’m giving them 100 stars
Not impressed at all with the food. Service was not good and server was not friendly. Menu prices do not reflect actual prices and there are no prices posted otherwise. Portions not generous compared to other Caribbean restaurants.
I loved this place. First stop on my most recent trip to NY, and it did not disappoint in the least bit. I had it saved in anticipation of the trip, so I couldn’t wait to try it. I honestly didn’t know what to get until the woman ahead of me ordered, and I asked “what’s that she got?” It turned out to be Aloo Pie, so I decided to have it with Trini corned beef and pepper sauce. SO. DAMN. GOOD!! So good I ended up getting a second one (Took a pic of the first one that I almost inhaled). We also tried the Oxtail Curry Roti and Buss-Up, both equally fire 🔥. I will definitely be coming back here on my next trip and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND hitting this place up when you’re in the Jamaica, NY area.
I went to this restaurant yesterday the food was fresh and well seasoned. However , seeing the staffs interactions with the customers turnt me off . Being in the industry of hospitality and food service it is imperative to understand the importance of customer service , ensuring that you are dealing with the customers in a manner that they would want to come back . Yesterday the behaviors that I seen displayed and treatment the customers received in my opinion was so distasteful that I didn’t even want to sit in and enjoy my food .
