Szechuan House

这家基本上是目前哥村中餐厅里的扛把子了，我去过不下20次了。对于中国人和美国人应该是有两种不同菜单的。我看到的美国人基本上都点的商务套餐类型的，一人一个盘子，盘子里有几样小份的菜和一点米饭。我们中国学生去一般都是桌餐，大家一起点几道菜。我们通常会点烤鱼、香辣猪蹄、山城毛血旺、冒菜、馋嘴蛙、酸辣土豆丝、干煸四季豆等菜，美国人几乎从不点这些菜。我看一些英文的评价说菜的味道不好。就我上面提的几道菜，我作为一个比较能吃辣的浙江人还是觉得挺好吃的。给美国人的菜单上的菜我没点过，所以不知道。我们肯定不会去点什么芝麻鸡、橙皮鸡、左宗棠鸡这种菜的，你看国内哪个中餐馆会卖橙皮鸡或左宗棠鸡的？通常在美国去中餐馆，我觉得美国人写的英文评价越差，我可能对口味反而越放心，哈哈。 服务么倒是就这样。这里不像美式餐厅里那种特别热情的服务方式，有时热情到我觉得反而是一种打扰。就像我和朋友聊着天，美国服务员会突然走过来插一句：“你们吃得怎么样啊？有啥需要帮助吗？” 我倒是挺习惯川味居的这种服务方式，更像国内餐馆，你不叫服务员，他也就不会来打扰你。去的次数多了，和店老板也就认识了，每次去老板都会和我们点一下头，也知道我们会点些什么菜，上菜的速度还挺快的。小费我一般都给20%。家庭餐馆不容易，哥村也没几家能吃的中餐馆了，不希望这家也倒了。虽然我看不上美式中餐，但从店家的角度来说，如果美国人觉得口味不好，确实可以考虑提升一下美式中餐菜品的味道以及相应的服务。毕竟在美国做生意嘛，活下去是第一位。哥村中国人又逐年减少，不把美国人伺候好，可能确实很难撑下去啊。 过几个月我爸妈要从国内来看我，我也打算带他们来这里尝尝村里的中餐。我不是不能写英文评价，只是懒得写。阿妹丽卡朋友们如果好奇我写的是啥，辛苦用谷歌或GPT翻译一下好了哈

The server lady is very unkind

The Kung Pao chicken is amazing and rivals what I’ve had in China Town in NYC. I’ve taken multiple people there to eat that dish, and haven’t had anyone who has not blown away and hasn’t come back. If you order anything else, you’re crazy.

Great authentic Chinese cuisine. The atmosphere is a little weird, but the food makes up for it, in my opinion. Portions are large, easily shared between two people. The large soups are enough for three people or more. It's a staple of Columbia, if you haven't been there yet you're missing out.

My husband and I decided to try Szechuan House for the first time for my birthday dinner. The atmosphere was fairly cold (though room was warm) with fluorescent lighting and not overly friendly/welcoming staff, but I’m always game to overlook environment for good food. Unfortunately, the food was forgettable. I ordered something from the spicy menu - beef hot pot - and there was no spice. Zero. Not even a hint of a pepper. It wasn’t unpleasant - the beef in the stew was tender with a lot of skin/fat in the dish - but it was just one note. Might as well have been swimming in gravy. The egg roll was decent. My husband ordered the crispy chicken. And it was just little deep fried shards of chickens so it made it harder to eat. Some little spice to it but again -one note. Maybe we were too adventurous with our choice in order and should have stuck to the more typical American orders? We went there because of rave reviews. I feel like everyone should try things for themselves, but just wanted to give an honest take for one experience.
