Swingers Diner has always been, and will continue to be, for the people and of the people. Founded in 1993, its aim was to bring reasonably-priced, delicious, organic food to the neighborhood and surrounding community, at a time when this wasn’t necessarily an easy option. And the goal was to do it with style and without airs—inclusivity and a lack of pretension are some of the diner’s main ingredients. Never to be taken too seriously, Swingers’ motto rings out with a laugh—Ass, Cash or Grass, Nobody Eats for Free. After the start of the pandemic, the original owner decided to permanently close the restaurant, but Stephanie Wilson, then the general manager, knew this couldn’t be the end.
